Question reguarding adding a new story

I previously used storyline and I loved the system for users adding, editing, and deleting stories... however I was unhappy with just about everything else. I'm considering switching to efiction but with the little I've messed around with it... I don't like the way users add new stories. To me, it just seems far too complicated and messy with the co-authors, story notes, characters, chapter notes, end notes, etc, etc, etc. I also don't like that it appears users can only upload .htm or .html and not .txt. Also, from my few tests, this "tinyMCE" editor always adds extra spaces between paragraphs. Essentially what I'm wondering is is it possible to somehow mod efiction to use storyline's system of adding fanfiction? Just keeping only title, description,  category, rating, etc. and then use storyline's system of editing stories/chapters. I hope all of that made since. I'm sure if anyone has used storyline in the past they at least know what I'm referring to. Sorry I couldn't explain better. Is there anyone that can help or is this just not at all possible? Thank you very much in advance.

Anything's possible, given enough time and knowledge. I'm not familiar with Storyline, so I'm not sure how much work it would be. Some of those things can be turned off in Settings, like coauthors and TinyMCE. I don't think you have to have characters if you don't want, though the selection box might still appear with "none" in it. I know you don't have to have classifications (genre and warnings are the most common). Maybe you could just keep the boxes for the notes from appearing by editing them out the form; they'd just go into the database as blank.

You can upload a .txt file.

If you have ever used fanfiction.net, storyline is very similar to that (in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they're actually using a greatly modded version of storyline). I did try turning off TinyMCE and once it just didn't go away (it was still an option everytime you tried to upload something) and then when it did go away it wouldn't let me edit stories (which doesn't seem right so I think something might have gotten messed up).

As for .txt files, when I tried it gave me a message about it being in the wrong format. I think I need to reinstall lol

Hmm, well, I just uploaded a .txt file right before I responded to the post, because I couldn't remember. So it's working at my test site, anyway.

There's a general site setting for TinyMCE as well as an individual profile setting, so you'll want to make sure you have both turned off. If it effects editing, though, I'd definitely recommend reinstalling your files because that's not right.

I tried reinstalling and this time left out TinyMCE from the beginning and everything seems fine. I did try your earlier suggestion of removing chapter notes and such from the form (I'm assuming you meant includes/storyform.php) but I always get the same error:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '>'

It of course gives me the line number (which is different depending on what I'm trying to get rid of) and when I go and look I don't see anything that shouldn't be there. Not sure what I'm doing wrong  πŸ˜

Never mind about the error! Still not sure what was causing it but I tried again and successfully removed them! Looks much better now but still hopping someone out there knows how to mod storyline and efiction together (because I certainly don't lol)
