Hi,

I did a search, but didn't find what I'm looking for. I'd like to ask if it's possible
to add something as required information for the registration page? I want
members to have to submit their birth date when they register (Got some adult
stuff on the site). Is there any way to achieve that?

Thanks.

I have no suggestion, however, I do have a comment. What's to stop someone from lying about their age? I know of one website (not efiction site though) where they want you to put birthdate and year and I lie about it all the time... mainly because I'm so old you have to scroll a bit to get by birth year and who cares what day I was born? I understand it may be a concern on your website, but there really is no absolute way to make sure some precocious kiddo isn't slipping in and reading adult stuff anyway. Hell when I was twelve, I was buying books in the erotica section from B. Dalton Booksellers and no one said a word. And my parents weren't checking what I was reading ... they were just happy I liked reading. πŸ™‚

There isn't a thing to stop them from lying. We wanted to do it from a "covering our butts" standpoint.
We're not the cops. We can only go by the information that was given to us, and from our side of the fence,
having something saying this person claimed they were of age is better than having nothing and scratching
our heads in case anyone comes calling. But are we aware that kids are going to lie? Sure. πŸ™‚

If you're operating in the US and you don't have it on your site, you're actually in violation of the law, the Child Online Privacy Protection Act.  It's planned that in version 4 this will be a standard option on the registration form that you can turn on/off.  Unfortunately, putting it in version 3 is more trouble than it's worth right.

I haven't been here in a long while, but wanted to say thanks for the response. Thus far (since I'm not code savvy at all), I just have TOS warnings asking that members be 17 or over, added a dob slot to the bio page, and a pop up warning on all R and X-rated fics. I eagerly await version 4. I'm pretty freaked out at the thought of having legal issues because I'm being charged with policing the children of others.

My website even has a Warning before you can Enter the site. You may want to consider adding that as well.
