I am running three eFiction forums off of a single author/user database, and am thinking about adding additional functionality to the site. One of these things is a SMF board. I see that the bridge currently is written for an existing forum and a new install of SMF. has anyone done it the other way?
I know that there are more columns/values to take into account in the SMF users table - but could I just combine these in some way?
What do you guys recommend? Or is this just crazy talk?
It's possible, but difficult. You basically have to copy the efic member's fields into the corresponding member's fields. This takes some planning and you'll basically have to shut your site down while you do it.
I did this a while back, and I'm pretty sure I posted the script I used somewhere so you might search for it.
I also have a question to bridging efiction and smf.
I tried it with smf 1.1.4 and efiction 3.3.1.
I now tried it twice and it doesn't work. Here a list what I did so far.
1) I downloaded both.
2) I opened the README in the bridge/ folder of efiction and followed all the instructions.
3) I installed both with the same admin-nick ... that worked without problems.
4) I tried to login into forum ... it worked.
5) I tried to logiin into efiction ... it worked not really properly.
Problem: When I login into efiction it goes to forum after login. Have I done something wrong?
I tried it firstly on my localhost to see if it will work properly.
So now I faced a problem.
Please help.
EDIT_1: I tried something more. I wrote a post into the forum with a link to efiction. When I arrive there, I am not logged in anymore...
EDIT_2: I tried also to create a new user. I pressed "register" on efiction, was linked to forum, created there a new user, went back to efiction and tried to login with the new user. The result; I have got only a blank page.
Where is the problem??

ShiKahr, you have bridged your site correctly. Since the members info is coming from SMF, it goes to the forums upon login. I haven't figured out how to make it go to the archives but I know it would take some editing of the efic bridge.
lyssa,
When I bridged my efic and SMF forums, my forums were existing...the efic was somewhat new. I detailed my experiences in this thread to help others interested in doing a test run on bridging

Hi Chelle
thanks for the link. I will have a look tomorrow morning. Now I am too tired to understand anything. π
Good night

I hope it's helpful π
I hope you won't mind me budging in... last night I managed to brige a new SMF (1.1.4) to an existing efiction (3.3.1). The bridge is working because when I login to the forum with the admin account of SMF (which I had to make upon installing it), I am immediately logged in to the archive. However, once I am logged out of the forum and want to login at efiction, I get a blank page. I am not sure if I am missing something because I followed all the instructions of the brigde (and many posts here). Perhaps I should have changed more in the other php pages? I am a bit at loss here. π
I am wondering though: how can I get the smf pulling usernames or data from the efiction tables, because I have about 201 archive members. I think Chelle got it working (at least I know in the post you are referring to above you say you got an existing efiction working with an existing smf. That is something I really want to figure out, since the archive I am testing this for has an existing efiction install since 2005 and an existing forum). If you want me to set up a separate forum post with all the details and create a test acc, please let me know. Thanks in advance!
