Have you searched for your problem: Yes
If so, what terms did you try: bridge, smf, login, blank page, doesn't/does not stick, existing efiction, existing smf
State the nature of your problem:
Okay, for an existing efiction archive and an existing smf, I have been trying to figure out how to bridge the two. For that I created a test environment (see link above), where I at first wanted to bridge a new smf to an existing efiction archive. I first wanted to try this and see how it works because it is easier to start a new SMF (and most likely import old posts) than doing that with an efiction archive.
I have the bridge working in this test environment, however, when I login into the (forum: http://www.quillsandink.com/fiction3/forum) and go to archive, it displays just one member: the only one who I had to register when setting up the forum... Is it possible to have SMF pulling data from the efiction author table? Is there a way to achieve this? For testing, I do have both efiction and smf sql tables in one database. Secondly, after I tried to login at the archive, it does not take me to the user account info or the forum, I simply get a blank page. I did clear my cache and cookies (both firefox and IE), but the problem remains the same. I also untoggled Use a persistent connection at the SMF server settings Γ‘nd untoggeled: Enable local storage of cookies & Use subdomain independent cookies.
As you might understand, I am a bit at loss here. π³
Preferably I would like to bridge the two existing efiction and smf, but I searched a lot on this forum, but I can't find anywhere how some of you achieved that. I can imagine that there are many others who would like to know how it is done.
I am most familair with Chelle's forum post here: https://efiction.org/forums/index.php?topic=4295.msg23575#msg23575
A forum post started by Lyssa: https://efiction.org/forums/index.php?topic=5929.0
and many others...
As an incentive, I am more than willing to ship Belgian chocolate your way if I can get any help on this π
Thanks in advance!!!!
Anything's possible, but you have to code it. The included SMF bridge assumes a new eFiction install using the SMF user data. That's the only it's intended to work.
Thanks for answering Tammy!
I was wondering, with coding, do you mean PHP coding? Or hooking up the two tables in the SQL table by means of a query? At this point I have no idea how to code it at all (let alone that I have that specific knowlegde)... any hints, how to's?
If you've got 2 existing installations (SMF and eFiction) I would not attempt to bridge them. You'd have to merge the two tables together which would be just about impossible.
Yes I know, I was thinking about it this morning, and it's quite overwhelming given the usuage of author id's within the efiction tables, connected to stories, reviews, profiles ect... to match that up to smf, get that working too.
Thanks anyway for your time and effort Tammy, it's highly appreciated!
