Have you bridged eFiction, if so with what?: No.
Version of PHP: 2.6.4-pl2
Version of MySQL: 4.1.22-standard
Have you searched for your problem: Yes.
If so, what terms did you try: Image uploads, images, problems with large image uploads, large images
State the nature of your problem: For some reason I can't upload a large image, when I have 50000x50000 as maximum image size (no, none of the images I am trying to upload are actually that size, it's just a size we put in to stay "safe", but I guess that didn't work). I also have "Allow image uploads" ticked. I get an "There was an error with your image upload". Many of the images I am trying to upload are large in KB size (example, 750KB). Does eFiction maybe have a restriction on KB or MB upload? If so, how can I edit it to allow large images (especially in KB or even MB) to upload?
Do you have a test account for us? Yes.

50000x50000? Why so large? On an average computer screen it would take forever to load much less how much scrolling you would have to do to see the image.
In Admin->Settings->Submission settings
For Allow image uploads do you have it set to Yes?
The part that says:
Maximum image size
Max image height:
Max image width:
Change the default of 100, 100 to 50000 50000
And see if it works.

None of the images are that big. π That's just a general size we decided to use.
I did everything you said. π (I think I said that in my original post? :)) It's still not working though. I get an error.
Thanks for your time though! π
I just posted a story as TEST with 2 4 images and they loaded fine.
Here's the url: http://boxofmagic.talkoncorners.net/viewstory.php?sid=54
Although you would have to validate it for others to see it.
It uploaded with no problems gave me the url of the image links. I could edit and try a wall paper in it if you like.
It seemed like 1024 x 768 2048 3000x900 was the largest I could put in there... but honestly I don't know that anyone would want to put something that large inside a story or whatever. When it was larger I couldn't upload it... But I don't know it that is really a restriction of efiction or the webhost having a maximum filesize for an image to be honest.

I saw that! π Thank you for the examples. I checked the KB size of the images, and all them are relatively small in file size. I tried uploading an image with the pixels 1000x1000, but the KB was 750, and eFiction gave me an error. So I do wonder if eFiction has a restriction on KB size. I don't think it's the webhost because I directly upload the image size onto the FTP (the 750KB) and it uploaded fine, but that was directly through FTP, but eFiction. eFiction won't let me. π
It probably is your host. There's different limits set for what can be uploaded through FTP and through a PHP-based interface. You can find out what it is if you look in Admin > PHP Info and look for upload_max_filesize.

Thank you for replying! I went and checked and it says 7M. I take the M is megabytes? It seems my host does allow me then to upload large image sizes? So why then do I get an error. π
Not sure. The message "There was an error with your image upload" isn't in en.php or en_admin.php, so unless you've customized yours (and that's much more generic than what's in there now, so that doesn't make too much sense) then it's not coming from eFiction. (Or if it is, it's harder to tell where.)
What's the filename of what you're trying to upload? Maybe it doesn't like something about it.

I do have two personalized skins, but they haven't been customized very much.
When you say file name, do you mean the name of the folder where the files are uploaded to? Or the name of an individual file? It can be different images at a time. One of them was named chris.jpg, etc. And I've done quite a few tests and I noticed that the same file (in name) loads fine when it's under 200KB, but won't upload when it's more than that. So I don't think it's the name of the file?
Your message is actually, "Error! We encountered an error. Please go back and try again." This is a very common eFic message, and takes away all the confusion I had previously. (What you posted isn't really what was outputting, and couldn't exist within eFiction, so try to be as accurate as possible.)
I think that there is a filesize limit, and it's 250MB. There is a section in user/manageimages.php that makes me think so. I tried it on both yours and mine, and a file around 220Mb was fine, and one around 300Mb would not upload.
Lyndsie is right... when those images got over 200KB it wouldn't upload. Maybe you can open those 750kb files and change the filesize by either resizing the images or lowering the resolution to 72 dpi.

Oh, I see, I see, I'm sorry about that!
Do you mean 250KB? Because if it was MB, eFiction would have allowed me to upload the pics, I believe. I'll see what I can do with making the images smaller.
Thank you!

Yes, that was what was happening with me. π Resizing would take away the point of the image as some of them are fanarts for stories, and so come in a large size. As for the resolution, they are all 72 dpi.
Yes, that was a typo. I mean K.
You can probably change the limit in manageimages.php to 1MB and your files will probably get through. Probably. Your host may have limits as well. And anyone on a dial-up connection would still have upload troubles.
