I was going to add a new challenge and upon clicking on the admin challenges page I got this error message:

I did define the basedir in the languages' en.php file, and yet I'm still getting this message. How do I go about fixing the problem?

Basedir shouldn't be defined in the languages folder.  It's defined by the main files.  Post the exact link where you get this error, please.

Last night I updated to version 3.51. so the basedir definition isn't in the language file anymore, but the error message persists and the page it comes up on is the challenges page in the admin section.

Debugging is off, though it was on when the problem first started.

And how are you getting to this link?  Because that's not a valid page.  That's a panel included in the admin pages.  I suspect sometime back around version 3.1 an update to the challenges module didn't  run correctly for you and therefore you've got an erroneous link still active somewhere.

When I click on the Admin link, the Challenges link is next to Archive Maintenance. If it is a problem with an update gone wonky, how do I fix it?

(I do have old files from past updates, I didn't want to delete anything that could be important.)

That link should have been deleted.  You should be accessing the challenges admin page through the modules panel now.  To delete that link go to Admin->Panels.  Select the admin panel type and delete the challenges panel there.  Then to access the correct link go to Admin->Modules and from the list click on "Options"

I deleted the challenges panel link, but I can't seem to find any modules link in the admin section. The Modules table was missing from the panel table, I added it and now the challenges are showing up properly.

Thank you for the help Tammy.  πŸ˜€
