I'm test upgrading right now, and before I try the real thing and installing a forum, I just want to ask a few questions.

Has anyone here bridged phpbb yet, and if so would you be willing to share your files?

Also if do manage a bridge, what happens to the members and authors I already have? Are they moved to the new forum install's member list or are new members who register in the new forum moved to the efiction members list?

Hmm which version of phpbb are you referring to? 3.0 betax or 2.0x?

Either one will work. I haven't installed it yet.

I think the way the bridges work, is that it uses an existing forum, and a new efiction, so you end up with the member list of the forum, and not efiction...

Whoever said nothing is impossible never tried slamming a revolving door.

Yep.  If you've got an existing efiction and a new forum, you might want to bridge the other way.  Bridge the forum to efiction.  The other option you have is to come up with a script that will move your eFiction author into the forum members table.

Okay, say I get the authors moved to the new forum and get the forum bridged. What about the stories already archived? How do I match them up to the correct author? Just change the ID of their story folder to match the ID of their forum account?

That would be part of what you'd be moving.

ETA Sorry for the brevity before.  If you look at the timestamp, you'll see I was half asleep.  One of the things you'd be moving and matching to the new forum member table would be the ID.  So for instance, in your conversion script you'd match the fields in your efiction_authors table to the members table in the forum software.  The uid in efiction would be the ID_MEMBER in SMF, for example.  Sorry, I don't have phpBB installed anywhere so I can't tell you what that one would be.  Then the ID_MEMBER would match their old uid number and everything would match up without changing folders, stories, etc in eFiction.
