URL to your eFiction: http://fiction.allihave.net
Version of eFiction: 3.3
Have you bridged eFiction, if so with what?: Not that I know of.
Version of PHP: 4.4.4
Version of MySQL: 4.1.21-standard
Have you searched for your problem: Yes
If so, what terms did you try: Pieces of the errors Im getting. I read through each but they don't seem to be the same issues.
State the nature of your problem: Everything stated below.
Do you have a test account for us? Nope

I never was successful with the last upgrade so I ended up going back to my 2.x version. This time I seem to be having a bit more luck as the tables went through fine and I was able to do the set up as I wasn't the last time. However I have the following issues. I don't know if they are all interlinked, or seperate issues.  😐

1) The front page is blank. There isn't any news posted even though they are still visible as there via the admin area, same with recent stories, etc.

2)
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/allihave/public_html/fiction/includes/pagesetup.php on line 102
That error is across the top of every page.

3) I tried to go through and see if I could put a coauthor on a story of mine. I received this error.

A fatal MySQL error was encountered.
Query: SELECT count(stories.sid) as stories, author.penname as penname, author.uid as uid FROM fictionfanfiction_authors as author, fictionfanfiction_stories as stories WHERE stories.validated > 0 AND (FIND_IN_SET(author.uid, stories.coauthors) > 0 OR author.uid = stories.uid) GROUP BY author.uid
Error: (1054) Unknown column 'stories.coauthors' in 'where clause'

4) When clicking on a link to go to a story, you receive the following.

A fatal MySQL error was encountered.
Query: SELECT story.title, story.coauthors, author.penname as penname, story.summary FROM fictionfanfiction_stories as story, fictionfanfiction_authors as author WHERE sid = '181' AND author.uid = story.uid LIMIT 1
Error: (1054) Unknown column 'story.coauthors' in 'field list'

There may be other issues as well but I haven't come across them as of yet.

Did you have any errors in the upgrade script?  It doesn't seem that all of the steps were completed.  Your stories table wasn't updated to add the coauthors field for one thing.

I'm thinking that I must not have completed the upgrade and now it's in the middle somewhere. If I start from scratch as in just installing 3.3 brand new to a new database, would I be able to move my stories, etc over?

I'd say it's highly doubtful that it would work.  You'd have to get a lot of things in the new database to match up with the old while creating them new (all your classifications and ratings etc).  Did you have a backup of your 2.0.7 site?  If so, you might try re-doing the upgrade.  Even if it doesn't finish correctly, you might be able to figure out where it is having troubles and then we can help you get past them.  If not, you might try adding the coauthors field to the database manually.  I'm sitting in a hotel lobby so I can't look at the upgrade script to see where your error might have happened and what needed to happen after it.

Okay I scratched that idea, of trying to move the databases, etc. I uploaded all the old files and tried to do the upgrade once again. I get to step three and it says ...

Note: eFiction 3.0 will require you to make some updates to your skins. You are highly encouraged to choose one of the skins included in the download as default until you can upgrade your skins.

And that's it, there aren't any options or anything. I don't know how to get around that.

Click Ctrl-A and see if highlighting everything reveals any errors there.

There doesn't seem to be any errors once everything is highlighted.

i'm seeing these errors on your homepage:

Warning: in_array() [function.in-array]: Wrong datatype for second argument in /home/.../fiction/header.php on line 122
_DOCTYPE
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/.../fiction/includes/pagesetup.php on line 102

Doctype? i've never encountered that error before, and it's not listed above.

For the missing things on your homepage, make sure that they are activated.

Go here and change everything from inactive: /admin.php?action=blocks

I get those errors now probably because I was never able to finish the upgrade process. I got to step three before it told me about the skins issue. When I went to the blocks, the page is blank and I'm unable to make anything active.

I would just download another copy of efiction and reupload all the files (except for the install one and probably tinymce because it takes forever to upload that one). Then log into your website and see if things are activated in Admin->Blocks section. But that's just what I would do. Sometimes reupping the files help correct those that might have become corrupt.

Your news archive seems to still exist if I clck on it I get to
http://www.allihave.net/fiction/news.php
and everything is there.

I may try that. I think the problem has something to do with the fact that I can't get past step three in the upgrade, I'm assuming there is more steps after that.

Did you upload the languages folder?  _DOCTYPE is defined there.  If it can't find the language files all sorts of things get screwy.

I'm so sorry for the late response. I had to move and didn't have internet for a little while, mix that with working two jobs and I'm not left with a whole lot of time. Now that things are slowing down, I'm determined to finally get this bad boy upgraded.

I have uploaded the languages folder. I tried everything for another try and still can't get past the third step where it mentions picking one of the skins.

Okay I've been working on it and when I got to the parts in the upgrade that says something already exists I would jump ahead to the next step. The only time I got an error all the way to the end was with something already existing.

So my new problems, sigh. I uploaded my default skin and I got this error...

Notice: Undefined variable: numcats in /home/allihave/public_html/fiction/blocks/categories/categories.php on line 4
A fatal MySQL error was encountered.
Query: SELECT * FROM fanfiction_categories WHERE parentcatid = '-1' ORDER BY displayorder
Error: (1146) Table 'allihave_fiction.fanfiction_categories' doesn't exist

So I deleted and if you look at my site http://fiction.allihave.net you should see all these errors. I don't know how to fix either of them or if I should attempt to do it once more. Also, I deleted all the files the end of the upgrade told me to do. I didn't notice a change in anything though. I'm searching through the forums to see if there is anything similar to this but I think exhaustion is kicking in and I may have to try again tomorrow. Any help/suggestions/etc would be very much appreciated.

I've some how managed to fix the above errors but I've ran into some new ones. Any help would be appreciated. I've spent the last hour + searching the forums for answers.

1. The table for the module wasn't created it looks like during the upgrade. Can I manually create it? And if so, how do I go about doing that?

2. Things are coming up as doubles. The admin panel is all doubled links and many things throughout the website are double links, etc. I have no idea how that happened.
