URL to your eFiction: http://fictioning.net
Version of eFiction: 3.3
Have you bridged eFiction, if so with what?: No
Version of PHP: 5
Version of MySQL: Not sure
Have you searched for your problem: yes
If so, what terms did you try: moving server move host
State the nature of your problem:

Not really a problem - just preparing to move the site from one host to another.

Just need to know if anyone sees any potential issues with my plan:

  • Backup all files
  • Backup database

Restore the lot on new host.

The bit that I'm worried about is that my hosting (Bluehost) has "add on" domains. That is, the installation will be in a subdirectory under the main domain (i.e. maindomain/public_html/fictioning.net/...) Will this have any impact on the move?

Also I seem to have to create the 'new' database through the cPanel and import the existing database into it.

The database will have a new name and username (which I amend in the config file). Once I've done that, should it all work?

Any advice would be welcomed.

Sue

I moved mine to a new server and a new domain name, and mine was fine. πŸ™‚ I did exactly what you wrote, by the way.

Just make sure you do it soon, before the official changeover, and then when you're sure every thing's fine, then make it all official. :p

Thanks Jenny - I feel a little more confident now. I'll post any problems or snags (but I hope there aren't any).

Make sure you change the url to your site in the settings too. It will probably be different since you were on a subdomain before. BTW, I've also moved hosts a few time with little difficulty and none related to efiction.

Thanks Carissa and Jenny.

I'm happy to report that the move was completely painless. It was done in less than 30 minutes (phew).
