Okay, this may not be able to be done, but it can't hurt to ask.
Okay, I started this site called On Gossamer Wings, which will be a fan fiction listing of all stories in the Harry Potter world that corresponds to our categories. The problem is, that the people submitting links probably won't be admin, or even the author themselves, even though I have on the main page not to do that.
I have tried around a hundred different link scripts, but they just never seem to work out properly. The one I usually use the authors of the program keep screwing up the update scripts and ended up loosing all that time because it wouldn't let me roll back for some odd reason even with the mysql backup. It's a long unhappy story that would bore you I am sure. *chuckles*
My Problem: Is there any way to change the Submit a Story Page to use the Recommendations Module Form instead?
I.E. Instead of using the form that eFiction normally does and create a text file. Use the submission form from the Recommendations Module and instead of it being separate, it would be apart of the main site and insert it into the database.
Hopefully, I am explaining this well enough. It is around 2 am, and I am supposed to be asleep. *chuckles*

You should probably just change the panels... hide the Add New Story panel and the Manage Stories panels and probably the series panels as well... /admin.php?action=panels&type=S
Add a new panel in submisisons and create the url that you go to when you add a new reccomendation. (Isn't it this one? /modules/recommendations/manage.php?action=add)

I don't know if that would work. The Recommendations page has a different way of doing things that isn't totally merged into eFiction. I had a slight board conversation about it with Tammy about the sorting problem, and that is when I found out it's just an add on. It shows a link in the correct category, but it doesn't show up in the main story sections so that wouldn't work I don't think. I think it would have to be modified slightly into the main version.

Well, I'll be danged. She must have fixed it and didn't say anything! Don't I feel silly! *blush* I just tried the recs module on the Ruby Quill, and it seems to actually show only the stories in the proper category now. It used to show ALL stories no matter the category. I am very happy about that! Now I can add more recs to the RQ site. π
However, this doesn't help me with Gossamer Wings though. I still need some way to merge the two scripts together. I wish I was good at all this mess. I would just do it myself. *sighs*
Basically I need the following:
1) Change the form to allow the users to type in their own information. See Below URL:
http://rq.citadelofthewolf.com/modules/recommendations/manage.php?action=add
2) Allow the content to be put in the main section of eFiction, not a separate listing. I.E. Listings should actually show up in a category if you click on it like it would with Add a Story.
3) Take out the recommender's name/comments and replace it with a Additional Story Information box (Like the Story Notes in the submit a story/chapter form). I.E. Extra warnings that aren't on the site, a notice about a sequel etc.
I don't even know if this is possible. I have tried so many links scripts I have almost given up on the idea. I want so much to use eFiction, but considering it doesn't allow you to enter the Author's Name/URL it's going to be hard unless someone can figure out how to merge the module with the main script. If I can't, I will basically be doing most of the work myself unless I can talk some people I trust into helping me. I just know I am going to get a bunch of people creating the name of their favorite author and submitting links under that name. I just have that feeling.

Do what Jan said, and switch the forms in the panels admin.

A little trickier, but I think if you do a search and replace on the files in the browse folder, browse.php, and search.php to repliace "fanfiction_stories" with "fanfiction_recommendatoins" you're mostly there. You'll probably have to do some more replacing, but that would get most of it.
3) Take out the recommender's name/comments and replace it with a Additional Story Information box (Like the Story Notes in the submit a story/chapter form). I.E. Extra warnings that aren't on the site, a notice about a sequel etc.
The function "recform" at the top of manage.php builds the recommendations form. Edit it how you want. Sounds like you only need to remove the recommender's name and change the comments to "Additional Story Information".
I just know I am going to get a bunch of people creating the name of their favorite author and submitting links under that name. I just have that feeling.
You do realize that recommendations can be sent to an approval queue just like stories?
What I meant was, if I run it the way eFiction is normally run, then I will have a bunch of people making accounts in names that aren't theres. I know that stories still have to be approved, but I would rather that the person creating the account had permission to post links if I had to use the regular version of eFiction.
I'll try this out and see if I can do it. Hopefully I can. π
I thought the recommendations goes to the recommendations page, not the main submission queue? Or did you change that recently?

No it still goes to the recommendations submission queue.
Any way of changing that so I get a notification of submissions? Right now I have to check it once in awhile in order to know if there is something waiting to be added.

I thought that with the reccomendation module, people post the author's name in a seperate spot, like here:
http://rq.citadelofthewolf.com/modules/recommendations/manage.php?action=add
If I use my Jan_AQ account and decide to rec a story by Dreamy, I put Author: Dreamy, not Author: Jan_AQ.
So you think that people will sign up trying to pretend to be other people? Isn't that already a risk with running a fanfiction archive? Someone could pretend to be someone else and post their story. With Rec's, though, you odn't need to ask the author's permission as much, to ask if you can put a link to their story on your site... anyone should be able to rec anything, right? Within reason, and your archive/rec archive's guidelines...

I guess I didn't explain that line very well. Right now it's just set up like a regular eFiction Archive. People sign up for an account and it shows their name as the author of the story. Once I am able to play with the Recommendations Module and incorporate it, it won't matter if the person signs up with someone elses name.
Sorry for the confusion.

Oh, so you mean you're not using the rec module yet. Well once you do, it won't be a problem. π

I just realized something else. I was going to Tammy's site in order to re-download the zip for the module and saw this:
No recommendations will not be displayed in "titles". They're listed on they're own list. They also won't be in the recent list. You will find them in the "other results" list for other browse pages.
Will this apply after I make the changes you suggested? If so, any ideas on how to fix this for my site? I definitely want things to show up in at least the recent list, if not both.
