I was wondering if there was a way to integrate Akismet to the archives.  It's an open source software designed to trap spam email, comments and track backs.  It's mainly for blogs and forums, but can be modded for 'anything with a comment box'.  I have no knowledge of modding, or else I would do it myself.  But it could be a handy little tool to integrate into eFic.

I am actually looking into doing this for my own site. I'm not sure if it will be a clean hack or not. I know that I won't be able to do it as a module with my coding knowledge... If you or anyone else is still interested in this, please let me know.

I just wanted to let everyone know, that I have managed a basic http://akismet.com/" ;">AKISMET hack using the http://www.achingbrain.net/stuff/php/akismet" ;"> PHP5 CLASS. Right now, it can detect a STORY review as SPAM or not  (True/False) and store it in the datbase accordingly (I added a TinyInit "SPAM" column in the reviews database). I'm now modifying the reviews functions to only display items with SPAM=FALSE (0) and the ability for users to mark REVIEWS as SPAM themselves (incase something gets through). After that, the next step will be to add a HAM over-ride to keep authors from marking SPAM on reviews they just don't like, and also the ability to report false positives(HAM)/Negatives (SPAM) to Akismet.

I will do the best to document my modifications and post them here when I'm finished. I have 2 sites to implement this on, so with luck, it will work well!

Due to the lack of elegance with my akismet integration, I don't think I want to do a "find this and change it to this" style how to for this mod. However I would be willing to post my reviews.php file with a bit of info about how I set things up if anyone wanted to review it and possibly fix it to be nicer. There is a lot of abandoned code for extra features that I never added, once I got the basic spam/ham to work, and I never got around to building the "view all spam" thing either.
