Mod name: Recommend this story to a friend v1.0 final by Spikey(fanfictionworld)
Description: Allows you to place a Recommend this story link on your story index page that allows members/ non-members of your site to Recommend fanfiction stories via an email  to others

Requirements: Minimum of efiction 3.2.1 but will also work with 3.3 and up
Mod History: N/A - first release
Mod License: free to use just leave my link intact on the scripts submission form page please

Download Link: http://www.fanfictionworld.org/Spikeysmods/index.html

then left click on the Recommend this story to a friend mod for efiction by Spikey updated release.zip link

as Jacynthe  suggessted it in the feature suggestions forum ( https://efiction.org/forums/index.php?topic=5588.0)

I decided to research it and do it on my site so am now releasing it for all of you to use

basically what my mod does is allow you to place a link on each story index's page  (I suggest you put the link under the chapter listing like what I have done!)that when clicked opens a popup that allows the user to reccommend the story on your site  to other people by way of sending an email which contains the said story link which is automatically generated  it can email up to 3 different users at a time you also recieve a copy of the email so you can keep an eye on who's using your form and who's recommending what

the email generated can be modified to your requirements (instructions are all in the readmefirst directory)

basically download the zip file from the page above and read the readmefirst directory's files and follow the simple instructions to install the mod

comments are always welcome! and you know that it works correctly because I tested it on my own site before releasing it for you to use too!

Works wonders Spikey! πŸ˜€

I worded the recommendation emails differently through the tellafriend.php file and it just works like a charm. The great thing is that it retains the warning since the warning code is part of the URL when you visit the page. Kudos!

Oh and.. thanks for the thank you! hehe

thanks!  πŸ˜€

I will update the zip file and post again when thats been done all you will need to do is reupload the files and make a size change to the popup that appears in the storyindex reference

I'll pm you specifics if you perfer Jacynthe  as you will only need to reupload some of the files and edit a bit of the code or if you perfer you can just reupload the whole thing and redo the addition to the storyindex.tpl (which has been changed a little)

I modified the size of the image this morning.... it went from 250px high to 150px high because I didn't need all that whitespace... and changing to 150px actually allowed the whole message to fit in your window size... I am so productive right BEFORE work. It's after that that things get tricky. LOL

Just PM me the specifics when you have the chance and I'll correct everything that needs correcting in my installation. πŸ™‚

Thanks Spikey!

Okay, I installed this and tested it, and the email part works fine, except for the fact that it doesn't include the story link.

I tested again and got this email

Hi,

Jacynthe, whose email address is ********@sympatico.ca, thought you may be interested in the fanfiction story located at http://fanfics.suethomasfbeye.net/viewstory.php?sid=16&warning=4. So why don't you take a minute to check it out? Who knows - they may just have been right...

We look forward to your visit!

It's like yourtellafriend.php file is not parsing the REFURL or doesn't have it. Make sure you can see that in the file.

I don't know what's going on. this is that section of the tellafriend.php, also the admin email doesn't list the url either. Is there something else I need to turn on for it to grab urls?

Only thing I can think of is that the following lines aren't working:

<? $refurl = $_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER']; ?>
<? print $refurl;?>

How odd, it's still not working for me. Maybe Gmail is eating the link? Either that, is it not FireFox compatible or is there something that should be checked in Firefox in order to grab the link?

I don't know. I am receiving it from you via Gmail just fine. I guess as long as it works for others, it doesn't matter if it doesn't work for me. *chuckles*

I haven't downloaded/seen the file yet, but just in case you haven't β€” I'd highly recommend you to sanitise the data being sent directly (that is $_POST).
