Hi all,
I would like to setup the site so that we have to accept any new user registrations before they are able to read any of the stories.
Is this possible?

Anything's possible. This is not something you can do out of the box. It would require you to alter the script with a mod, and it would have to be a significant one.

If you set stories to be members only through ratings (I believe), then users would be required to register before reading stories.
