Okay, first when a new member signs up the tos displays, however the member sign up or reg, displays directly below the tos, I've joined other efiction sites and that does not happen. The tos displays and then the user accepts and is redirected to the reg page. I had to make an ugly fix because the reg displayed well below the mainpage boundary and was not legible.
Second, the review flow is odd. Again, member of a few efiction sites here, and on those sites when a user wants to review they click a link and a small pop-up review page displays. The reader/reviewer never loses focus on what they were reading. I was not expecting to be redirected to a new page and then another new page and then finally the user can go back to reading. (btw, I looked and cannot believe there is no mod for this either.)
Third, I STILL have not had an answer to the table of contents display. I've set it in the admin to force display on ONLY multi-chapter fic's. Yet it displays on completed single chapter completed oneshots, unless I turn off the forced display.
There is an upload image field on the user registration page that is useless, they can't upload an image there, so why is it there?
I think that's it for now. I do hope someone can get back to me, especially on the tos/registration issue. It looks really odd right now.
Your first issue sounds like you're talking about sites that are bridged with SMF or another forum. Default eFiction installations do exactly what your site does. Also, it sounds like you have a skin issue, because I just double checked my install and the registration shows up in the mainpage just fine.
Skins made by Kali are no longer supported!
To fix the second, add {reviewform} to the viewstory.tpl.
For the story index, there are two places you can set it. You set the default in the admin panel, but it's also in the users preferences so make sure you are changing it there too.
If you don't like the upload image field in the registration form, take it out but be very, very careful you don't mess anything else up.
I'm on my phone right now so I canlt really test your image uploads, but all it's supposed to do is put the image in a folder on your server and provide a url, so that people can host images at your site. If you don't want that, you can remove the link in Admin then Panels.
Also, badgering here isn't really going to solve what you perceive as a problem with the toc views, as what you've got is standard and no one active here really knows how to change it. I suggest search the mod forum or contacting the sites you see the way you like it. Ask them what version of efic they've got, and if it's 3, ask them about their mod.
Kali, I don't think it's a skin issue. The css is fine and it's only the reg that's dropping below the mainpage.
Carrissa, I have {reviewform} in the viewstory.tpl. I'm just going to have to live with it until I can create a popup window for reviews. I did set the admin panel AND the user and reset it and reset it. Again I'm just going to have to live with it. and I'm to chicken to mess around with the php files. 😛
Lyndsie, my issue is I did not expect it to work that way as all the efiction sites I belong to it doesn't. Every time I've registered the tos displays and the user has to accept before being redirected to the reg. I'm not badgering I'm just trying to understand why it works the way it does as it makes no sense to me.
What I was talking about was the third thing, with the TOC (not TOS), which I remembered you having a separate thread for. With regard to the first one, what you're getting with the TOS appearing above the reg form is actually standard behavior. As you can see, it does it on mine: http://dracoandginny.com/user.php?action=register. I have made no modifications to that. It must be that these sites you frequent have modified or bridged their eFiction, so what you're saying are bugs or problems are really actually standard equipment. If you like, you can go sign up and play around at my test site, if you want to get a really good idea of what eFiction really does and doesn't do. The only thing I've modified there is the validation queue, and I've added a couple of modules. http://efictiontest.verilyviridian.com
The problem you are having with your TOS/registration page is a skin problem. You need to add "overflow: auto;" to #mainpage in your CSS to make it at least look like it is all one box.
I'm also not sure I understand your review problem. The review form is at the bottom of the story. I think you can make a pop up pretty easily using jquery. Check it out. Otherwise, this is working properly.
It might be helpful for you to understand that most of the things you are asking about are contrary to out-of-the-box functionality. The sites you are browsing might be using an older form of eFiction (which I would recommend that you NOT do because of the security problems) or sites with mods. Just because someone has not released a mod does not mean they did not modify their install.
K! Carrissa and Lyndsie, I didn't realize that, obviously, when I posted. The few efictions sites I post on all operate the same way. I don't like the review form below the story, but I'm leaving it. I really don't like that when you submit a review it takes you away from the story. I prefer the popup and I guess that came with 1.1. So I won't bother about it now. I also believe the tos thing was a 1.1 feature done away with, least ways that's what I gather from the sites I post to. I don't know why it changed, cause it seems to me the admin would want the user to agree to the tos before adding the account, but, hey wtf. *not meant badly*. I was happy mostly with being able to set the site up so quickly and I'm really not bitching, it just seemed odd to me to have those two features deleted in newer versions of efiction.
I can't remember whether the reviews popped up in 1.1 standard, but I doubt it. If I did take it out it was because it was a type of pop-up that most security programs (norton et al.) now block as ads. To have the same functionality now would not be difficult with JQuery. And I know 1.1 didn't have the TOS before registration because 1.1 didn't have a TOS at all. I added it in 1.1
I checked with a friend and they had someone create their site, Tammy, and she thinks that they put in the popup for review. She didn't say that yesterday. (I thought she built it herself), so yeah. Sorry for being a pain. I didn't mean to ruffle anyone's feathers! I took a look at her source, (I don't like to do that, but I did), and it looks custom coded.
The review pop-up for 1.1 was definitely a mod. I remember when it came out.
My 1.1 install had a TOS before the registration but that must have been a mod too...
