Is there a way to change the link on the front in Most Resent to go directly to chapter one and by pass the summary page. Or a way to completely remove the summary page? I don't use the summary page at all.
Thanks
Losille
In the admin control panel, go to Settings, then Display Settings. Set "Use Story Index" to "No". I presume this is what you mean?

Super hugs and a big thank you! I envisioned a long drawn out process!

This really isn't a problem, its more like something I would like to do. Right now, when readers/vistors click on a story title, they are directed to the table of contents. However on this site, http://www.prisonbreakfic.net/ when you click on the title of the story, it takes you to the first chapter. Does anyone know the name of this feature or how to turn on this settting
Also, there is another setting I am interesting in. At the end of every chapter, there is an option to show how many people favorite a story or how many other stories they have on the site.
Note: - I also made the change that is outlined in this thread and that didn't work. Thanks
zxfactor, the instructions Lyndsie gave out are precise for your go-to-first-chapter issue.
The other setting is actually a module called StoryEnd. It should be at efiction.hugosnebula.com. π

Jenny, thanks for responsing. I will change the setting again based on the instructions from Lyndsie - hopefully it will work. When I made the change last time - nothing happen. it still went to the table of contents. Maybe there is a time delay. Thanks again.
One more detail... make sure your personal settings (My account/preferences) don't have the box checked for "Display table of contents for stories." as this would override the default for YOUR account.

That was the missing piece. Once I made that change - it went straight to chapter one!

One additonal question - since this is a user perferences - is there a way for me to make remove this optionsDisplay table of contents for stories." for users for the whole site.
That would require some tweaking of eFiction files on your part as it's not a setting you can turn on or off in the admin panel. You would need to go into your efiction folder, then go to user/editprefs.php which is the file for the user preferences. The storyindex is ruled by that line of code
$storyindex = isset($_POST['storyindex']) && $_POST['storyindex'] == "on" ? 1 : 0;
So experiment changing it to this (am in no way saying this would work, just try and see if it does what you want)
$storyindex = isset($_POST['storyindex']) && $_POST['storyindex'] == "on" ? 0: 0;
I wouldn't advise removing that line altogether as we never know what kind of trouble that is going to create, but you can definitely remove the part where it's the "form" to check/uncheck that box.. though I would recommend commenting it out to deleting it... So you would need to look for:
$output .= "<label for='storyindex'>"._DISPLAYINDEX."</label> <INPUT name="storyindex" type="checkbox" class="checkbox"".($user['storyindex'] ? " checked" : "")."><A HREF=""#"" class="pophelp">[?]<span>"._HELP_TOC."</span></A><br />";
And change it to:
/*
$output .= "<label for='storyindex'>"._DISPLAYINDEX."</label> <INPUT name="storyindex" type="checkbox" class="checkbox"".($user['storyindex'] ? " checked" : "")."><A HREF=""#"" class="pophelp">[?]<span>"._HELP_TOC."</span></A><br />";
*/
and I believe that should help.

Thank You - you are awesome!
Glad I could help. π
I don't know if you have a live install of this and already have members registered, because if you do and they had the storyindex selected, now they can't remove it so you would need to go to your database and actually change those manually. But if not, you shouldn't have any problem anymore. π
