URL to your eFiction: http://www.aphroditeslabyrinth.com/
Version of eFiction: 343 although the database i imported is of the 35 version
Have you bridged eFiction, if so with what?: no
Version of PHP: PHP4
Version of MySQL: 5.0.24- i think
Have you searched for your problem: yes
If so, what terms did you try: install/transfer
State the nature of your problem: i wanted to transfer my files from a freebie host to a paid host. i exported the database from the old one to the new on. the version i used for the freebie site was 35 but i was having problems with it so i opted to upload the version 343 folder instead. upon installation, i get this error:

Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: in /mnt/w0509/d09/s19/b0300172/www/aphroditeslabyrinth.com/install/install.php on line 903
eFiction 3.4.3 Install
Configuration File Setup
Cannot connect to the database. The information you supplied appears to be incorrect. Please try again.

Do you have a test account for us? unfortunately no.

thanks.

You have to make sure to enter the proper information for your new database - the correct new database hostname, username, and password.  But in your case you don't want to run install.php.

All you should really have to do is copy over the database.  Then upload the eFiction files to the folder for your install.  Then, if you had your stories saving to the stories folder instead of the database, you'll have to upload the contents of your old stories folder.  Change config.php to match your new information.  That's it.  You don't have to run install.php because you've got a database already, and all it does is create the tables.  You might have to run update.php if you were previously at an older version of eFiction.  And then, you'll also want to upload any custom skins you had to the skins folder.

i read somewhere that you needed to remove the install file. should i have done that? i was afraid it wouldn't work so i installed everything.thanks.

Yes, you should remove the install folder and update.php from your directory.

There are database changes between 3.4.3 and 3.5.  I don't know if it'll cause you problems or not.  I haven't tried running a 3.5 database with 3.4.3.

i removed the install.php as well as the updates.php and now i'm getting this error:

_FATALERRORQuery: SELECT * FROM settingsfanfiction_settings WHERE sitekey = 'NJRdW84an3'
Error: (1146) Table 'd60569098.settingsfanfiction_settings' doesn't exist

It's saying that the table wasn't created in your database, or that your settings are incorrect in your settings table. Check to see if they are there in your MySQL database.

Is 'd60569098.settings' really your prefix?  That might also be an issue.  If the settings table is actually there, check the prefix field to make sure it matches your actual prefix.

i found "fanfiction_settings" in my myslq, but not "settingsfanfiction_settings" so should i create a file with that name?

p.s. i also tried to delete the database and start from scratch. no such luck either.
