Can anyone tell me which of the existing blocks would be the best to use and some general updated instructions on how to create one? I am trying to generate interest in people posting their own recommendations.

I guess you could create a custom page for it, but on my site (because it's mostly a closed archive site), I put things about Recommendations in the rules section of my website. At first I was going to put it in my Help file, but since Recommendations are kind of submissions, I thought the Submissions page made more sense.

Well, it comes with a custom page, I just thought it would be nice to have a little random recommendation block or something on the index page. Just with the general info, title, summary, rating... just don't know how to go about it.

If you can't figure it, you could probably add a random quote script and code the recs into a notepad file yourself.

It is relatively easy to set up and include either in a block or someone above the news or wherever. I use mine for random quotes, but no reason you couldnt do it for a rec. It obeys the css of each skin, so it should integrate nicely even if you have multiple skins.

you can see what i have done with it here if you want a look

the quote just above the news title, it changes on each refresh

probably not the most elegant way to do it, but if no better one is on offer, this one not too hard to use

why is nothing ever easy?

I already have a random quote block actually. I hadn't actually thought of doing it that way. I was looking for something more automated, but if no one can help me figure it out, it can be an option. Thanks for the suggestion.

Use any of the random, featured, most recent blocks and change the table from stories to recommendations.
