Is there anyone who could possibly help me to build a custom skin?

I have an SMF[Tiny Portal] community bridged with efiction.
(smf 1.1.4 and the latest update of efiction)

The community is the main hompage - so I don't really need the efiction index as a home page, per se - but I still want all the Featured story, Most recent, etc information presented on the story index.
I had really hoped to be able to use smf as my site header (wrapped) the way I've seen a couple of sites -but that's not possible since I have Tiny Portal...which seems to be the root of some sort of ssi function conflict.

All I really need is for my smf and efiction to have a similar appearance.  I tried accomplishing something of the sort with Goku Girl's Liquid Skin theme here: http://www.escape-ism.com/ourstories
-but as you can see the columns are all untidy and the layout is now a complete mess in IE.  So far - the only thing I like about it is the header image and the horizontal menu's.

What I need are two separate columns - main page and sidebar - but I'm very clueless where coding is concerned and have no idea where to even begin.  (oh - and it needs to be a fixed width layout)

:|..so would anybody like to help me out with this?  πŸ˜₯

Sadly, yes.
That's the one that won't work due to the SSI conflict with TP.
It would have been perfect for us.  (Maybe there is a way around it not working - but I'm clueless ...and I haven't seen any bridged sites with Tiny Portal that have actually gotten it to work)

At this point I'm looking at my SMF index.template file to see if there's any way I can figure out how to mimic it somehow...
