URL to your eFiction: www.tabootwins.com
Version of eFiction:3.5.2
Have you bridged eFiction, if so with what?: no
Version of PHP: 2.11.9.4
Version of MySQL:4.0.21
Have you searched for your problem: yes
If so, what terms did you try: installing issue, 404 error, url issue. I found one topic that was similar to my problem and did as it said, but it still won't work for me.
State the nature of your problem: The installing page will not come up for me. I have efictionin the root folder. I chmod the config.php to 666 and I moved it to the efiction folder (see pic below) I am not sure what I am doing wrong.

Do you have a test account for us? no
I think you're entering an incorrect URL. From that screenshot, it doesn't look like you've installed eFic in the root of your directory. It's actually www.tabootwins.com/eFiction352/eFiction352. Unless you've got the domain pointing to the eFiction352 folder?
However, I think the fact that you get a 404 when accessing only the domain is another problem. Have you tried putting a test index.html file in the root to see what happens? If you do and you still see a 404, then that's probably something you need to talk to your host about.
I got the index to work www.tabootwins.com . How do I know when I have the file in the root folder? I think one of my problems is that the efiction folder is within another efiction folder. I am not sure how this happened, is there a way to fix this, or am I wrong with this idea? I don't think I have the domain pointing to the efiction folder.
Edit: Alright, so no I think I have it in the right folder and in the the root. I did chmod the config.php file again to 666 and it has been moved to the efiction folder. (see pic/link below.) It's still not working for me though...what am I doing wrong? Also, I am almost certain this site is going to be popular because of the affiliates I am going to have and the contests that will be on it, do I still need to make sure that there is a stories folder? I saw on the wiki that it advised against it if the sight was going to have a big archive.
Does your website allow php? Some webhost don't. Otherwise I'm guessing it's a permissions issue your webhost may have to set for you.
I see you list your php version as 2.11.9.4 (That sounds mighty low as a version size) (Are you sure that's not the myPHPAdmin version? If so if you log in on that look at Server Version: under local host to find out the php version running).
Have you set up an efiction database under myPHPAdmin yet?

Mucking around in eFiction since circa 2001 (ver. 1.0)
Now running v.3
I am using nexcess.net as a webhost and I have a vps server. You are right it was the myphp admin version. I set up a database in the mysql like the tutorial on nexcess said to do. When I go into myphpadmin it shows tabootwi_efiction as a database I did not add the tabootwi it did that itself.
My php admin:
Server 1
# Server version: 5.0.77
# Protocol version: 10
# Server: Server1 (Localhost via UNIX socket)
# User: ************
phpMyAdmin - 2.11.9.4
* MySQL client version: 4.0.21
* Used PHP extensions: mysql
The prefix it's adding to the database name is pretty standard behavior. It's usually your hosting account name. Make sure to enter that part of the database name (as well as user name) when you get to the install step that requests that info.
However, you've still got the 404 issue. From what I'm seeing, you have the eFiction files at one level off from the root, in the folder called efiction. So the URL should be tabootwins.com/efiction, but that's not working. The root folder will typically be named either public_html or www. There's sometimes a level above that, but if the files aren't in the web folder, they won't appear. tabootwins.com is pointing at the web folder (I assume). So I'm thinking maybe you're not inside the public_html or www folder?
A screenshot of the root level, one up from the efiction folder, would clear that up.
I would guess it's the html folder. Where did you put the index.html file to get it to appear?
in the html folder. I tried that earlier, didn't work. Maybe I'll try it again..
Holy fireworks! I did it! I just have one last question. On the installing guide I saw that you should create a stories folder only if the archive will not have a ton of stories on it. What should be done if the the archive does become big? Ignore. I created a stories file, after re reading what it said on the wiki. Thanks!
