URL to your eFiction: http://blurred-photographs.net/fanfiction/
Version of eFiction: 3.3
Have you bridged eFiction?: Nope
Version of PHP: 5
Version of MySQL:  5
Have you searched for your problem: Yes

I got the script installed and set up without too many problems and I thought it was fine until I edited my profile. When you click on a members name, a mysql error comes up above the skin's header (like displayed at http://blurred-photographs.net/fanfiction/viewuser.php?uid=1 ). It shows the stories written by that user but it doesn't show any of their entered information, like website, AIM, gender, etc, even though I've filled it out. The error is below.

Notice: Undefined index: profile in /home/.hoagie/hiderpaige/blurred-photographs.net/fanfiction/includes/class.TemplatePower.inc.php on line 701

Notice: Undefined index: profile in /home/.hoagie/hiderpaige/blurred-photographs.net/fanfiction/includes/class.TemplatePower.inc.php on line 701

Notice: Undefined index: in /home/.hoagie/hiderpaige/blurred-photographs.net/fanfiction/includes/class.TemplatePower.inc.php on line 701

Notice: Undefined index: profile in /home/.hoagie/hiderpaige/blurred-photographs.net/fanfiction/includes/class.TemplatePower.inc.php on line 713

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /home/.hoagie/hiderpaige/blurred-photographs.net/fanfiction/user/profile.php(70) : eval()'d code on line 1

I've tried to tinker with the settings, even tried turning off all profile values but I couldn't find anything that fixed the problem.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out πŸ™‚

Also, can anybody tell me if it's possible to edit news updates after you've posted them? I made a couple typos in my first one because I was in a hurry and thought I could go back and change it. For now, I've just made a new one and set it to display only one news article but I'd like to go back and edit or delete my first one if that's possible.

well im not sure about the other errors (im not brilliant with mysql) someone else will proberbly know how to help tho

but this error

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /home/.hoagie/hiderpaige/blurred-photographs.net/fanfiction/user/profile.php(70) : eval()'d code on line 1

im pretty sure that its saying that theres a typo on the first line of your profile.php file

as for the news - yes you can edit the news updates if you log in and go into the admin section -->news-->

on this page you should see your posted news items and next to each one there should be an edit/delete link simply select either edit/delete as you need

hope that helps you a little

Thanks for your help, I figured it was something like that. I just have no idea about how to go about fixing or editing the file. And what's weird is that I didn't edit any files during installation except the skin itself so I don't know it got the typo.

I went to the admin >> news section like you said, but I still couldn't find any edit/delete links. I took a screen shoot ( ) but all I see is just the news articles themselves.

Under Admin->Settings->Display settings...

Do you have Display Profile set to Yes? (IF you have have it as no, that might be the problem). Change it to one or the other and click Submit and see if it fixes the problem.

I checked and the setting is turned to yes.

I tried turning it to no, because at this point I really just want the error to go away (no matter the features I have to give up) but the page still looks exactly the same.

Thank you for the suggestion though, I appreciate the help πŸ™‚

It's a problem with your skin.

The news block in the index is also used in the admin area, so if no (edit) shows up in one place, it won't show up in the other. Open the newsbox.tpl for the skin. Add {adminoptions} to it and upload it to your site.

Make sure that it is included between

<!-- START BLOCK : newsbox -->
<!-- END BLOCK : newsbox -->

As for the profile errors, it probably has something to do with your skin as well. Something in profile.tpl and variables.php, or something with your panels in the admin area.

There's no Home link. Did you do that on purpose?

You only have one skin. Is the skin located in the skins folder, or did you overwrite your default_tpl folder?

When I go here, http://blurred-photographs.net/fanfiction/skins/default I get 404 not found error.

You are not supposed to change the deafult_tpls folder.

Jan,

I see a Home link on those pages. But you're right that the default tpls folder seems to be missing. I bet if she uploaded it back, it would probably clear up the problem.

Ah, I see the home link now. The link color is black on black until you scroll over it.

I think she edited the deafult_tpls instead of using the skin folder. All your skins for an archive, even if you only want one skin should be placed in the skin folder. Default_tpls should be left alone.

If your skin is in the default.tpls folder, create a new folder in the skins and just move everything into that one. Unzip the efiction33 file again, and restore the default_tpls folder with everything in it.

Then, and this is probably what you have to do if you still have errors after that (and after you try Tammy's suggestion below), delete everything in the new skin's folder (NOT default_tpls folder) that you did not change. So if you didn't edit profile.tpl, delete it from the new skin folder.

A lot of my skins only have 6 files.

index.tpl
header.tpl
footer.tpl
style.css
variables.php

are the ones in all my skins, and sometimes I'll include a newsbox.tpl or something else.

It's probably an error with a custom profile field.

You only have one skin. Is the skin located in the skins folder, or did you overwrite your default_tpl folder?

When I go here, http://blurred-photographs.net/fanfiction/skins/default I get 404 not found error.

You are not supposed to change the deafult_tpls folder.

First off thanks so much with the news help. It worked perfectly πŸ™‚

As far as the skin stuff goes, I think you get a 404 error for that link because I called it Default with a capital D. The folder is at http://blurred-photographs.net/fanfiction/skins/Default/

I didn't edit or delete the default_tps folder. The only files I even touched at all where the files in the skin I created (the one that's linked above).

A lot of my skins only have 6 files.

index.tpl
header.tpl
footer.tpl
style.css
variables.php

are the ones in all my skins, and sometimes I'll include a newsbox.tpl or something else.

As you probably know from looking in that folder above, I have a lot more files than that, however I don't have a variables.php. I got this skin from a friend and it's working perfectly fine on her archive (and I didn't edit any of the files other than style.css) but do you think that could be the issue?

It's probably an error with a custom profile field.

That's what I was thinking so, since I have no idea how to go about fixing that, I just turned off all of the options listed under Admin >> Profile Information. That didn't seem to help either though.

If all the profile fields are off why are beta-reader and website showing up?  There's a blank line between them that seems to indicate there's another with no information.  Have you tried re-uploading the user/ files?  Also did you for some reason delete all the panels for the profile?
