URL to your eFiction: http://moonlightfanfic.com
Version of eFiction:3.3.1
Have you bridged eFiction, if so with what?: I don't know what this means
Version of PHP: phpMyAdmin 2.6.3-pl1
Version of MySQL: MySQL 4.1.14
Have you searched for your problem: Yes
If so, what terms did you try: blank, black screen at install step 2
State the nature of your problem: I'm installing and at step 2 the screen goes blank, and black!

here is the page:    http://moonlightfanfic.com/install/install.php?step=2&language=en

if I go to the main page this is the error I get:

_FATALERRORQuery: SELECT * FROM settingsfanfiction_settings WHERE sitekey = 'aQfBUkWSz5'
Error: (1146) Table 'efiction.settingsfanfiction_settings' doesn't exist

Do you have a test account for us? No

πŸ˜•

I looked around, but can't seem to find a fix for this. I am running with phpMyAdmin, and am new to php & mysql.
So any help would be appreciated, especially if you can put it in 'dummies' format,  πŸ˜†

Thanks!

You should empty your database, delete all your files and start over. It looks like something didn't get uploaded completely.

Okay, before I do that though...

In the meantime I assumed that I had to create the settingsfanfiction_settings table, since it apparently didn't exist. I found the file docs/settingstable.sql & used that to create said table.  Now I get this error code:

A fatal MySQL error was encountered.
Query: SELECT * FROM fanfiction_blocks
Error: (1146) Table 'efiction.fanfiction_blocks' doesn't exist

Is there something specific (in relation to these table errors) that didn't get uploaded that I can check.  I used ftp and double checked & I didn't see anything that got missed.
Should I continue manually creating the missing databases from the /docs/tables.sql file?  Or, as you said, scrap it & start over?

Thanks so much!

I think you'll be better off starting over.  It almost seems like you got part way through and then started over again.

Did you delete the database as well as the files?  You need to empty the database before starting over.

I dropped all the tables in the database.  Do I need to delete the actual database itself and make a new one?

Thanks again!

No dropping the tables should be sufficient. Are you sure the errors are the same?

still blank, black screen on install.

This is the message on the homepage:

_FATALERRORQuery: SELECT * FROM fanfiction_settings WHERE sitekey = 'hHN34nKsUs'
Error: (1146) Table 'efiction.fanfiction_settings' doesn't exist

Should I just scrap this version & try for one of the old ones?  this one doesn't seem to like me, lol

Thanks

I ended up putting the install in a subfolder & it worked????

The only crappy part to that is now I'll have to have one of those lame 'click here to enter' welcome pages.. argh.

One way to avoid the 'lame enter page' if you cant get it working any other way, is add a redirect, so when you type in the addy you wanted it to be, it will automatically redirect people to your efic installation, if you set it up as permanent, it is the next best thing as having it on the original url you wanted.

So make your 'welcome page' as you actually need a real page to redirect and then send that via a permanent redirect to your efic index page.

Not a perfect solution, but might work for you.

Just thought I'd mention that I was browsing your site and the custom skin doesn't stick for all pages.  It reverts back to ZenLike on the majority of the pages.  I have to hit the back button several times to get the custom skin to appear.
