Empty stories after upgrading form 1.1 to 3.4.3 ...

If so, what terms did you try: empty, story (both in upgrade to 3.0, in 3.0 problems, in 2.0 problems and in installing 2.0)
State the nature of your problem: After upgrading from 1.1 to 3.4.3, there is no more story text.

I actually have the same problem than whopgood while upgrading from 1.1 to 3.4.3 ( https://efiction.org/forums/index.php?topic=5504.0) but I don't see what he meant when he said

I put links from the penname to the uid and story text

Hence, it should be related to viewstory.php file, I've just started learning php though.
I changed
(line 115)

$file = STORIESPATH."/".$c['uid']."/".$c['chapid'].".txt";

to

$file = STORIESPATH."/".$c['penname']."/".$c['chapid'].".txt";

and
(line 165)

$file = STORIESPATH."/".$c['uid']."/".$c['chapid'].".txt";

to

$file = STORIESPATH."/".$c['penname']."/".$c['chapid'].".txt";

and the stories still don't show up ... what did I forget ?
Will new stories be stored by user id or user penname in my sroties folder ?

I have also noticed something strange :
(line 357) $file = STORIESPATH."/$chapterauthor/$chapid.txt";

If you need more informations :
My stories folder is CHMOD to 777 (but CHMOD to 755 it doesn't work much), it is full of folder named from my members pennane (and these folders are not empty); in settings, folder path is checked with name « stories » like mine; and in php info, safe mod is said to be turned off.

EDIT : I've juste checked my author list to manually rename my stories folder with user id and ... any of my member is considered as author ! Are members considered as authors since there is a folder named from their id ?
EDIT2 : Even with my changed viewstory.php file, with renamed folders, it works very well (but my members are still not authors) !
EDIT 3 : I have changed manually the name of all folder so it works now but I still don't understand where this issue comes from.
