I'm technical admin on http://fanfiction.oblonline.de and after we solved the first problem, we have the next now.
When members are trying do change the text of a chapter, which is online (maybe they want so add something or change one single sentence) they get in the preview the new text with all changes but after adding it to the story, we get an error-message

I know it has to do with the rights... "permission denied" but we have over 800 stories in our system and is there a way to change it for all in some kind of way or do I have to change it manual for all??? That would be a long long work... some members can edit - some not ...
Safe_mode is off on the server und all story-chapters have the rights 644 (which is right)... what can I do now???
please help! the members are sending me mails nearly every 5 minutes! 😮
What about the folder permissions? Those should be 777.
they are all 777 ... I checked it. The users can upload new chapters, but if they want to edit a chapter, which is on the server... they get this error. I tried to edit it with my admin-account - no success!
and some can edit their chapters (e.g. I can edit mine) but some can't.
I signed up and was able to enter a test story and then edit it just fine.

yes, I can edit mine either!
I tried to edit a chapter from an other user and... I got this error-message! I really don't know what this could be... all folders and files have the right rights... I changed for one user the rights for his story to 666... no it works (for this story) but not for the others...
What makes me confuse is that some of the users can edit - some not!
Sounds like your provider may have changed the ownership of the files on you. Ask them to CHOWN the files to whatever Apache runs on so Apache has permission to edit.

In relation to this, I'm using 3.3.1 and I've CHMOD all my folders in the stories folder (including the stories folder itself)... I would just like to ask if I would have to do this for the incoming stories folders as well? Or will they automatically have 777 permisison?

In my case, though, the chapters are not updating even though I've changed all permissions.
