my site cannot send a mail via the contact links, and I think it is because sendmail is not enabled. I just need to know what to put in the STMP thingies for mail.
EDIT: I get this error message:
include.php on line 106
What you put in your "SMTP thingies" depends on your host. Check the documentation they sent you when you signed up or ask them.
Where to you get that error? On what page? What are you trying to do?
Please also fill out the support request template and remember to use that for future requests.

Have you bridged eFiction, if so with what?: no

Have you searched for your problem: yes
If so, what terms did you try:e-mail, then email
State the nature of your problem: I click the contact link, fill out the form, and submit it, but it tells me that the e-mail could not be sent. I get this error at the top of that page:
include.php on line 106
I created an e-mail account that has nothing to do with the host, as they don't offer e-mail accounts, and I was wondering if I could direct the site to that one instead.
Do you have a test account for us?yes
Username: test Password: admin123
If you need admin privliges let me know.
Well when you go to the contact us page:

I notice that the captcha doesn't work. Your webhost might not have the program needed for captcha images to work.
As for the SMTP settings, try leaving them blank and see if contact works.

Babaca's right. Your host doesn't have GD installed. So you'll need to turn captcha off in your settings.
There is no file include.php in eFiction. The most likely cause if the email couldn't be sent is that you don't have a valid email in the admin settings.
I already tried leaving them blank, but I will try it again without captcha on.
*tries*
(btw, for some reason, only half the error showed. It is actually "stmp_include.php on line 106")
ok, didnt work. but I noticed these fields under php info:
sendmail_from: no value
sendmail_path: /usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i
*down a line or two*
STMP: localhost
stmp_port: 25
I'm wondering if the problem might not be that you are using aol as your email. Do you have another email like gmail or yahoo that you could test it out and see if it works?

THis might not have anything to do with your problem but I've noitced you repeatedly swit the t and m in SMTP. If you typed it in wrong on your email settings under admin, that could be causing part of the problem.
My Site:

PHP: 5.2.6

TotheJourney. that has nothing to do with it, as I am trying to do this without filling in the smtp things . that is pure error on my part. and Babaca, I will try that. and one has to wonder how you know I am using AIM. Did I give the test account admin priviliges?
I tried it with a yahoo address I just made, and that didnt work, so I am going to fill in the smtp fields.
nope, not working. still geting 'smtp_include.php on line 106'
No, but when I logged in as test, in account info I clicked edit bio to see what email was attached to test. Also I seem to recall when there was an earlier browser problem you mentioned you use AOL as a browser. Blame my unfortunate remembering of odd facts. No, the settings you have for test is just member settings and not admin. So it's all good. Sorry if I spooked you.
Of course the problem could still be your webhost. I've been trying to think if there were any files in efiction that you might need to reupload to get things working, but nothing is coming to mind and I don't remember other messages of that ilk.
Edit: Try re-uploading your Admin folder. Maybe there was some file somewhere that's missing or corrupted and is causing the problem.

well, I dont think that is it. I am havig the same exact problem with my live site, and I have re-downloaded eFiction for that site. I am still wondering about this though:
sendmail_from: no value
sendmail_path: /usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i*down a line or two*
STMP: localhost
stmp_port: 25
only its smtp, typo on my part
I have the exact same settings with no troubles. But as for reuploading efiction, you don't have to do the entire thing just the Admin folder and maybe the admin.php that's outside of the other efiction folders.

Make double sure you have a valid email address listed in your settings (admin>settings>site information). Also, the error you are getting seems to be because whatever you put in under SMTP settings (admin>settings>email settings) is wrong. From what you posted from your php.info file, it seems like your host does have sendmail enabled, so also make double sure that the fields under SMTP settings are blank. Nothing should be there!
You only need to fill in the SMTP if you are using an SMTP client, which is not the same thing as an email account. (I suspect you have put the username and password from your personal email account under SMTP settings...)
I give up. I am switching to a new host. The admin's name is 'bread' and he is a laid back*censored*!
I apologise. I am just fed up with the host. They locked the forum pertaining to my issue, so I couldnt post!
now i need a new host. π
Thank you all or the effort (btw, it was a host problem. They tell you nothing when you sign up. They dont allow emails of any kind!). and I apologise fr the wasted time.
Go with Freehostia I've had no problems with my test site there.
I kept thinking it might have been a webhost problem.
Sorry you were having problems with your host.
