Hi,
I just got an e-mail from Dreamhost saying they've moved my sites to another server. They included this little gem:
Also, custom PHP (and php.ini) setups will likely be broken by the move. This is
because they would have been built against the old 32bit libraries on the old server
and not the 64bit libraries on this new server. Unfortunately, this isn't something we
can help you troubleshoot, but you'll just basically need to rebuild your custom php
(or php.ini) again.
Needless to say, the archives are just gone... as in, the files are still there, and the databases, but absolutely nothing is visible. I'm just getting "this site unavailable" errors.
So, I have a few questions...
First - I'm running version 3.4.2, but I'm assuming that ver 3.5 won't be built for 64bit libraries (whatever that means)? Can someone please confirm this?
Second - I've e-mailed Dreamhost and asked them to move me to an older server, but if that proves impossible I'll need a new hosting service. I have several sites running, using about 800Mb disk space, and with 2 (soon to be 3) archives running, I'll need room to expand. Can anyone suggest a hosting service that's not too expensive and has the requisite SQL capability.
TIA
Elaine
Well, I'd have to do more research to be able to tell you what that really means, but it immediately strikes me as a bit odd. I suppose it depends on what hosting type you have. In a lot of cases with basic hosting plans the end user doesn't even have access to the php.ini or to installing libraries - the host has to do it. Did you ever do any custom PHP stuff? If not, then I shouldn't think you'd have a problem. None of that is required for eFiction. I think there are a couple of Dreamhost users around here, so maybe they could be more illuminating on that subject.
Could you provide the support request information? It'll help people who might want to comment/help.
Also, if things aren't showing up it could be a DNS issue, if they've just changed over the servers. Maybe they didn't do it so smoothly and the servers are playing catchup or something along those lines.

it could be that, because the sites are now back up, but the flash pages (just plain old html) were fine, only script generated pages weren't showing. so it wasn't DNS, but maybe something else.
Something similar happened once to my sites when they did some server maintenance, so all the server-side stuff like PHP wasn't coming up but the client-side HTML pages were fine. I'd say give it a couple of hours and if it's not fixed to call them and see what the deal is.

FYI Dreamhost allows you SSH access as well as allowing you to custom install php.ini or compile your own PHP π
Ooh, I knew about the SSH, but not about the PHP config stuff. I think my boyfriend has an account with Dreamhost so I've been meaning to remind him to give me access so I can get his site up and running for him.
