Upgraded from 1.1 and ended with this error after the install finished

Site is http://www.jlaunlimited.com/eFiction1.1/index.php

Warning: main(_BASEDIRincludes/mysql_functions.php) [function.main]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/batman/public_html/eFiction1.12/includes/dbfunctions.php on line 3

Warning: main() [function.include]: Failed opening '_BASEDIRincludes/mysql_functions.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/batman/public_html/eFiction1.12/includes/dbfunctions.php on line 3

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: dbconnect() in /home/batman/public_html/eFiction1.12/config.php on line 10

Not sure what to do. I've tried searching for an answer, but because of my limited knowledge in this area I'm unsure what to even look for. All the info seems to be there but my stories are unavailable.

Not sure why it was the way it was but the stories were listed my author in the folders and not by id#s

_BASEDIR isn't defined.  I'm not sure how that could be possible though if the upgrade ran.  Try re-uploading all files EXCEPT config.php

OK I did that and it is sort of running.

Currently I cannot see the text for the stories and I've noticed that many things appear to be duplicated. especially in the list of recent submissions page.

You ran the upgrade more than once.  You'll need to use phpmyadmin (should be available through your hosting control panel) and delete all duplicate entries in your database tables.

I found at least three sets of duplicates but the stories themselves still aren't loading.

Thank you very much for the help by the way.

With some experimentation I discovered that I can manually upload the text files for the fics and everything seems to work fine. I'd rather not have you manually upload 1500 fics

What do you mean you have to manually upload the story texts?  They should already be in place if you're upgrading.  If you've MOVED your site(as it kind of seems from looking) then you need to move your stories folder from the old site to the new site and CHMOD it and all folders inside it to 777.

The stories are in place. All the info about the fic is there but the actual text does not load. If I go in through the admin page and edit the fic and upload it manually then it works perfectly

And this is just an upgrade?  You didn't move anything?  If so, check your settings and make sure the storage is where it's supposed to be stored (files/database) and if files that the folder is correct.  There should be no reason to need to upload the stories again.
