Not sure if I'm posting this in the right section. Feel free to move it if I haven't.
I've been reading this thread about bridging eFiction 3.3 with a Coppermine Gallery and I'm a little lost. Are there any really easy walk-through instruction on how to get a Coppermine gallery working on eFiction 3.5 for someone who has never ever done this before? I'm fairly new to eFiction (been messing with a not yet public site for nearly a year now) and I've never ever used a Coppermine Gallery in my life. I would absolutely love to have a gallery for fan art as a part of my site, but I can't find simple step-by-step instructions on how or where to begin.
Would someone have the time to talk me through it or direct me to something I can read that I've maybe missed in my searches?
I would be eternally grateful.
It appears that that bridge hasn't been updated for the current version of Coppermine either and it would been to be updated to accommodate the newest version as well I'm assuming. Also, the file that is necessary for the mod doesn't seem to be available, so unless someone can offer up a copy, or Calic0Cat updates the post, the mod seems a bit lost for now 🙁
Darn, that's unfortunate. I've had a few requests for a fan art gallery on my site.
Is there any other type of gallery that I can bridge with eFiction? I expect that there must be, but I've never bridged anything before so I'm a bit lost.
Well one option is to have a gallery that is linked to your forum for example SMF, if you have SMF and eFiction bridged. What I have done on my site is bridged eFiction with SMF and then there is a mod called SMF Media Gallery (there is also another one called SMF Gallery) and so users are able to submit their artwork.
You also don't have to have them bridged. We have archive (eFiction), forums (SMF), art (Coppermine), podcasting (custom script by Jenny), and classics (modified eFic), and nothing is actually bridged. The archive predates everything else by a couple of years, so it wasn't practical to bridge them. Sometimes people get confused by "why can't I log in?" (they haven't signed up for an account there), but it's infrequent and in my opinion less of a hassle than dealing with a crazy bridged system.
Gatchfanfic.com also uses the SMF forum as the hub to connect up Efiction and Coppermine. So far it's worked really well (although I haven't updated to the latest Efiction version). The bridges between SMF and Coppermine seem to be updated regularly because so many people use them.

Thank you for all of the information! I apologise for the delayed reply.
I did find Calic0Cat's Coppermine Bridge files for eFiction 3.3 on her site and I'm trying it out to see if it works for 3.5 as well. Unfortunately, I'm stuck on the silly config.php part. I can't seem to get the path right no matter what I type in there, but I'm going to keep trying until I get that right then I'll let you know if it works or not. Just for the hell of it, does anyone know what I should have here:
$this->boardurl = ' http://localhost/eFiction';
require_once('../eFiction/config.php');
If my eFiction/Coppermine links are as follows:
http://www.mysite.com/efiction and http//www.mysite.com/efiction/gallery
I can't get it right and it's driving me nuts. I keep getting this error, so I must have the path wrong somehow:
Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required '../tfa/config.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/*****/public_html//gallery/bridge/eFiction.inc.php on line 39
If I can get the bridge to work, how do I make it match the rest of my site? Are eFiction skins compatable with Coppermine galleries? That may be a stupid question, but as I said, I've never bridged anything before. If all this fails, I will probably go with one of the suggestions here. I'm not using SMF at all, so maybe I would be best just to not worry about a bridge?
Thank you in advance!
You wouldn't happen to be on Dreamhost, would you? I spent about 5 hours duking it out with that.
Skins made by Kali are no longer supported!
No, I'm with Site 5 Hosting. I've spent 3 hours changing those two little lines of code and I'm obviously doing something wrong. Thinking that if I can't force it to work, I'll reinstall the Coppermine gallery to http://www.mysite.com/gallery instead and try to make that work. Maybe I'm complicating it by trying to keep it inside the eFiction folder.
😕
If you haven't already moved it, I think you would change
require_once('../eFiction/config.php');
to
require_once('../config.php');
the .. means 'go up one level' so the original is saying 'go up one level, then down into the eFic folder, then find config.php'. So that wouldn't work on your site, where you simply wanted to go up one level, which is (was?) the eFiction folder.
However, if you've changed it like you said just above, the original should work.
Thank you, Lyndsie. I tried that just now and I'm getting only this:
Fatal error :
There's absolutely nothing else on the page but those two words. I don't get it. I guess maybe I should try moving the gallery and see what happens if I use the original bit of code.
I'm reminded of the time I tried to bridge an eFic install with SMF, and why I gave up, lol.
You should probably use the same folder structure as whoever you got the bridge files from, because it's possible there are other references to paths or something in there and they would have built it to match their setup.
Sorry I can't really help. I've not tried this type of a bridge before.
Thanks for your suggestions just the same. I appreciate it.
I tried moving the gallery so that the two are located like this: http://www.mysite.com/eFiction and http://www.mysite.com/gallery and I'm still getting the same error. I know it's something I'm doing wrong, but I can't for the life of me work out what.
I'm also realising that the themes available for Coppermine look nothing like the skin I'm using for eFiction and I bet there's absolutely no easy way to match the two perfectly, is there? At this point I'm ready to abandon the bridge and go with any gallery I can easily modify to match my eFicton skins. Any suggestions?
Not to pimp myself, but I know there's a Coppermine skin that mimics the SMF forum default, and I made an eFiction script that does the same.
It's also not that hard to pull at least the colors from any eFiction skin and alter the default Coppermine skin. Most of the time I just frame the Coppermine with the header/footer from my eFiction skin and call it a day ( http://www.made-by-kali.com/drhorrible/fanart - ex)
Skins made by Kali are no longer supported!
Thank you for the info, Kali!
I guess the fact that I'm not using SMF might be a problem. I have a phpBB3 forum, but that's not at all related to the eFiction or Gallery and I don't need them all connected.
I absolutely love the way your gallery mimics your eFiction skin perfectly! I guess the only difference is that the gallery will only use the default skin, right? I use two versions of the skin I have as well. Actually, I'm using a modified version of the skin found here. Third one down. Is it really as easy as just framing Coppermine with the header and footer from your eFiction skin? I'm used to working with html and php sometimes makes me feel like I'm on another planet. If it's not too complicated to do, I'd definitely like to try it. Was there a lot to change when you did it for this site? Any chance you might be willing to talk me through the steps if it doesn't take too much time?
