Upgraded.  Got this:

A fatal MySQL error was encountered.
Query: SELECT author.penname as penname, co.uid FROM fallenfanfiction_coauthors AS co LEFT JOIN fallenfanfiction_authors as author ON co.uid = author.uid WHERE co.sid = '20'
Error: (1146) Table 'meijinha_fallendown.fallenfanfiction_coauthors' doesn't exist

Saw someone else had it, but the answer to fix it makes no sense to me, and trying to create the table myself isn't working.  I haven't done anything with efiction in over a year, so could someone please give me the Idiot's Guide version to resolving this?

Before we can help you we need to see what happened exactly when you upgraded, what version you upgraded from and what version you currently have. Otherwise we have no idea what's going on, or what steps went wrong. So if you would please fill out the Support Request Template that is stickied at the top of each support forum.

Gah, sorry.  I had so many windows open, I forgot to look.

URL to your eFiction:  http://www.meijinhada.org/fallendown
Version of eFiction: 3.5
Have you bridged eFiction, if so with what?: No
Version of PHP: 5.2.5
Version of MySQL: 5.0.67-community-log
Have you searched for your problem: No; found similar problems by going through the pages
If so, what terms did you try:
State the nature of your problem: A fatal MySQL error was encountered.
Query: SELECT author.penname as penname, co.uid FROM fallenfanfiction_coauthors AS co LEFT JOIN fallenfanfiction_authors as author ON co.uid = author.uid WHERE co.sid = '20'
Error: (1146) Table 'meijinha_fallendown.fallenfanfiction_coauthors' doesn't exist
Do you have a test account for us?  No.

I upgraded from 2.xx, I believe?  Sorry.  As I said, it's been over a year since I actually did anything with it, it just sat as it was until now.  I uploaded the files minus config.php, skins, tinymce.  Then I accidently refreshed the webpage before going to update it through admin, and it came up with the error.

The coauthors table is a new table (added somewhere around version 3.4). Did you run the database update during the upgrade process (it sounds like you didn't)? If so, did you have any visible problems? Right now what it's telling you that the table doesn't exist.

You mean, running the update through admin?   No.  I reloaded the page at the website before I could update on accident, and that's what comes up: just a white screen and that MySQL error.  Then I tried running update.php, and it still comes up the same.

I literally can't get into anything; even going to the webpage itself brings up update.php and the error message.

It's been a while since I've upgraded from 2.0, but it may be the upgrade20.php file in the install folder that is the one you want. You should double check that, though.

Huh.  Well, I did that, and got so far as the Site Key.  Then I got this on a black screen:

Is naughtywords.php part of 2.0? It's not in 3.0, but if you deleted 2.0 files before running the script, that could be why. You're supposed to wait until after the upgrade, because some of them have info pulled out of the PHP files and put into the database. (Like naughtywords, and like dbconfig, which is what it's trying to do in that last message.) That last message is saying that something's wrong with the syntax. This could be as small as a missing or misplaced comma. It might also have to do with your version of MySQL. It was probably optimally written for v4 of MySQL. It's pretty sucktacular but you can edit that info in by hand. The defaults are in the docs folder but you'd probably know a lot of them from either your head or in dbconfig.php.

I still have the files from 2.xx on my harddrive.  Are you saying that, if I uploaded naughtywords.php and tried it again, it should work?

Ok, scratch that question, that DID fix the naughtywords.php error.  But for the other error, how exactly am I editing dbconfig?

I don't know if running the script again was going to work, but it seems it did. You should later check to make sure there aren't duplicates in your database tables, though, maybe.

I'm not sure what's wrong with the syntax there, so I don't know why it's not working. You can do that by hand by adding the info to the settings table in PHPMyAdmin or similar. However, that won't make the rest of the script run, so you'd have to the rest of it by hand, too, which isn't too fun. I'd maybe wait to get some more eyes in here to try to figure out why that's failing.

At that rate, I may as well do a fresh install.  πŸ™  Sigh.
