URL to your eFiction: http://www.junglebay.org/fiction/admin.php?action=ratings&rid=new
Version of eFiction: 3.3
Have you bridged eFiction, if so with what?: No
Version of phpMyAdmin: 2.9.0.2
Version of MySQL: 4.1.10
Have you searched for your problem: yes
If so, what terms did you try: "ratings" and I also searched each post in this forum (3.0 General Support) for the answer, but I couldn't find a similar problem.
Have you looked at the FAQs: Yes.
State the nature of your problem: The program seems to have installed fine but when I try to feed the rating system, when I click on the link, the data box appears for me to fill in but as soon as I move the mouse it vanishes. I tried unstalling the whole program and reinstalling it but it didn't fix it and I don't know what to do to fix it. Help please?
What browser are you using?
I use Firefox and don't have those problems.

Also are you using the newest version 3.3? You have 3.0 listed which if that's true, it's a bit old. An update would maybe fix the problem.
******************************************
Mucking around in eFiction since circa 2001 (ver. 1.0)
Now running v.3
I'm using Internet Explorer. And I had a typo, I'm using version 3.3. 😳
I'm also using Windows Vista (Ultimate), in case it has something to do with the problem.
I managed to set the ratings directly on the table but the page is still vanishing when I click on it. Probably I made a mistake somewhere in the set up process, so I'll uninstall and reinstall the program once again. Should I close the post or leave it open in case there's someone else with the same problem?
I think the problem is tinyMCE , because if I enable it on the site and the user, the options on the Ratings page (and Gender, the others seem to work fine) the page flashes briefly or if it stays, it disappears as soon as I move the cursor over the options area. But if I disable tiny MCE on either the site or the user, the page doesn't show up at all.
I can't figure out how to fix it. I don't know a thing about PHP or SQL. I've seen some posts regarding tinyMCE none of those helped me, I even tried going to their site and dowloading and installing the most recent version. It didn't work. And now that I have installed and unstalled the program I have a new series of errors, which might (or not, I'm ignorant on this) have to do with the problem.

Maybe I need to edit that file? *sigh*
Installing the script shouldn't change anything.
When you install the script, you are really just setting up the database to store information and such. The files themselves are what is probably having the problem.
Yeah it's probably because of Vista and/or your browser.
Try using Firefox, or another browser and see if it fixes it.

No, don't edit the file. Delete everything and start over. When you reinstall eFiction, you could have problems because you have the old stuff in your database still there sometimes. Delete all the tables and restart. If you installed it before without any errors, you should be able to do it again.
As for turning of TinyMCE for ratings, I don't know but I'm looking.

Thanks.
I will delete and reinstall, and will do it in a computer with Windows XP and Firefox.
It seems that Windows Vista hates everything.
I think I solved it... but it's not a permanent solution unless you don't change a thing from the default options.
My solution (and probably it was just luck):
After unzipping the file, I left the file name as is (eFiction33) and used the same name on the database.
Changed collation on the database to UTF8 unicode
When installing the program I left all the default options (tinyMCE option on "NO") and now it works. *shrug*
On step one I got an error message saying:
Fatal Error: call to undefined fuction: dbclose() in /home/spinner/public_html/install/install.php on line 1000 but it doesn't seem to affect the program and the "modify header errors" right after logging in dissapeared as well. If it's something serious, please let me know how to fix that.
The only difference I see is that everything seems slightly to the right now and the explanatory question marks on text boxes are out of place but I can live with that.
I was getting the same errors listed above in both Widows Vista and Windows XP so I know it wasn't a "Vista" issue but a configuration one.
BUT:
If I change the tinyMCE option from "NO" to "YES" in the Admin Panel, everything starts going wrong again and there's not turning back. It's delete and reinstall again.
I tried Version 2.0.7 and works fine for me, tinyMCE included so I installed that version instead.
