Can someone tell me how to change the look of the page that displays the entire story (the printable function) instead of having it with a white background and black Times New Roman font? I just want to know how to spruce it up a little.

Try having a look at hte printable.css and printstory.tpl in the default templates.
Copy them to your skin and then try editing them within your skin folder. That should give you some control over your printing options
