Is it possible to automatically send out a generic acceptance letter when a story is validated?
If a story is validated before an acceptance letter is sent, is it possible to retroactively send an acceptance letter?
Neither one of these appear to be possible, and I just know a moderator will forget to send the acceptance letter before clicking "Validate" at some point.
No neither of those is possible without MOD'ing the files.
Is this a difficult mod, or something that can be done in few lines of code?
And I'd like to suggest this feature be added in the future. π
It's not likely to be a feature. Not all sites send out acceptance letters so automatic acceptance letters wouldn't be a "feature" to them. It's not something I'm interested in spending time creating a MOD for as my site is an auto-validated archive. Maybe someone else can help you with it. The easiest thing would be to add a new admin option in the story block to send an acceptance letter. Of course, it'll have to appear in the admin links for EVERY story because there'd be no way to distinguish which ones have had acceptance letters and which ones haven't.
And there's your other problem with this idea. Nothing is saved to tell you whether or not a letter was sent. So you'd potentially be sending out lots of extra letters because there'd be no control.
I wouldn't want this as a feature. Everytime I send out an acceptance letter, I write to the author personally, explaining what I changed, what they need to fix next time, and if I validated them. Having an automated acceptance sent out would create way more work for me, and be unneccesary as I would have to contact them anyway, and tell them everything else. plus, an automated message is really impersonal. I don't want that.
Whoever said nothing is impossible never tried slamming a revolving door.
