I was thinking of trying to develop a mod to modify the urls using .htaccess to change them from:
browse.php?type=categories&catid=11
to
browse/type/categories/catid/11
This is more commonly known as "clean" or "pretty" urls. It would in theory help with SEO (search engine optimization), although I'm wondering if it would be better to rename with .html extensions? For example:
browse.php?type=categories&catid=11
to
browse-type-categories-catid-11.html
or something similar to that. I was wondering if anyone more experienced with apache could guide me, or take a look at what I'm trying to do. Thanks! Also, if anyone is interested in this mod, please let me know.
It would be better to go for the first one. (browse/type/categories/catid/11)
Although to make it even cleaner you'd be looking for: browse/type/categories/id/11 or even browse/category/general (or whatever) but the way the script calls the content in limits the way you can do it.
I know that someone was looking into it and made a file, but it required too much "in-hacking" of relinking links &c. I did a basic "user/Bob" sort of thing and story, but there was too much call in for the base URL and such -- I basically gave up. π

I can possibly help you with the apache mod-rewrite urls, but not in hacking eFiction to make it display the friendly urls... I wonder if we could do a live search and replace.
