Hi,
I searched a long time to try to solve my problem myself, but now, I need your help.
I added my characters (Personnages in french) in each sub categories, and we can see them here :
http://padme.a.free.fr/eFiction31/browse.php?type=characters
But, when I go to one categorie, I can't filter the stories by choosing 2 of them.
http://padme.a.free.fr/eFiction31/browse.php?type=categories&id=5
There is just "Personnages" and "Personnages", but not the names under.
It's not from the skin (I have the problem since the installation, with or without custom skins), and probably not from the translation of eFiction (I checked my fr.php file, and the Panels... The title is "Personnages", but the name is still "characters".
PS : Sorry for my english.
Try re-uploading the browse folder. I'm not seeing this behavior on any of my sites so it's going to be difficult for me to figure out what's going on on your site. Turn debug on as well, maybe I can get a clue from that information.
I got this :
Notice: Use of undefined constant _WIP - assumed '_WIP' in /mnt/122/sdc/6/8/padme.a/eFiction31/browse.php on line 297
I already re-uploaded the browse folder. I will try again, but I don't think it will change anything.
I just saw it doesn't work, only on the categories page :
http://padme.a.free.fr/eFiction31/browse.php?type=categories&id=5
When I go to "Titles" and I select the categories, the characters appears.
You need to add a _WIP definition to your fr.php file to remove that error.
π
And how am I supposed to do that ?
What do you mean by "definition" ?
EDIT : I think I understand now, but where I add this ? And what's the english definition for WIP ? Work in Progress ?
It doesn't matter where you add the line. I suggest you follow the pattern though and add it to the first list of universal declarations and put it in alphabetical order that way it will be easier to find if you ever decide to edit it.
And, yes, it means "Work in Progress".
Thanks, I have no longer error message in debug mode in this page.
But it doesn't solve the "Characters" problem.
Are you characters sitewide, or are they added only to the category?
/admin.php?action=characters

I have a couple of characters added in each sub-categories.
See, here it works :
http://padme.a.free.fr/eFiction31/browse.php?type=titles
Select the categories, then, the sub-category, and the characters appear in both "Personnages" forms.
But, when you go here, directly in a sub-category, it doesn't appear.
http://padme.a.free.fr/eFiction31/browse.php?type=categories&id=10
Any idea ? π
I don't know why your characters aren't appearing (heck I didn't even know the character feature was in there until you mentioned it). But obviously something got lost in the translation of the program from English to French. Did you translate something in the default_tpls folder? Or something got left out in the language.php?
I'm merely guessing here.

I fact, it's a friend of mine who translated the script.
She gave me the fr.php and fr_admin.php files, and a skin in french, and actually, the default_tpls folder.
I checked some files.... browse.tpl, but I don't see any errors :
<div id="sortform">{sortbegin}{categorymenu} {charactermenu1} {charactermenu2} {ratingmenu} {classmenu} {sortmenu} {completemenu} {sortend}</div>
I'm checking the others.
PS : It's not from the fr.php file, because I have the same problem in english.
I just saw that she didn't have to translate this folder. I re-uploaded the original.
It changed something : description of categories didn't appear before, I didn't notice that.
But still nothing about Characters.
I would probably just replace all the files. I know you've already replaced the browse folder and the default_tpls, but try doing the others as well. (But make sure you are using a new copy of the 3.1 zip (because sometimes a file gets edited). Then go to Admin->Archives and Maintenance and click Run Update.
Although looking through my settings and I'm wondering if this has anything to do with it. If you go to Admin->Panels look to see if Characters is listed. Then click the Edit button next to Characters, it should look like this (although yours would be a bit different using 'personnage' rather than character):
Name: Characters
Title: Characters
URL to Panel: (leave this blank)
Level: 0
Hidden: (is not checked)
Type: B
(Maybe you have Hidden accidentally checked?)
