I have figured how to make the changes I wanted except for the text on the page for a story. Could you please help me?

To see what I am talking about cfmmusicscene.com

That background is really busy and will be hard on the eyes, however, personal preferences and all...

What you need to do is open the style.css file in your skins folder in notepad. Look for references of text=#000 or #000000 and change that value to something that will be visible. Although given how busy that background is you're going to have to find a nice bright color that will be visible.

Thank you for your response. I have searched for text=#000 or #000000 using the edit feature on my cpanel and I wasn't able to find anything.

Library is beautifully written, very clean code. I am taking an online class in CSS and I think problem is that the font color is defaulting to black and I don't know the name of the correct variable to change.

Thanks for the comment on the website but, I am staying with the background, the text I use is gray. My readers pick the background and colors after several presentations.  I have had the website for four years and we get close to a million hits each month when it is full swing. I went to the efiction format so that my contributors can enter their reports without my help.  They love having the ability to publish reports the day of the event or movie review and not waiting for me to add it.

If I think what you're thinking, then the correct CSS property is "color".

That is what I thought too. If I am understanding the course material color is not listed unless it is needed to change the text to black. If you are using black it isn't necessary.

You should always define text and background color. You never know what people have set as their browser defaults so to make sure your text always shows up you need to define them. Don't rely on defaults because my default may not be what you expect.

I am pretty sure I need a variable name. I will keep looking.

I don't know what you mean by variable name, but I usually define the body text then redefine text color on things I want to stand out like heading and links and emphasized paragraphs.

Try it like this:

body {color: #fff;} (Or add "color: #fff;" to your previously defined body attribute in your CSS. #fff is white...change to your color of choice.)

Woohoo! Body was what I needed! The font color was not specified so it was on the site in black and could not be seen. When I added this "color: #C0C0C0 " after font size and  it worked beautifully!
Now I can relaunch the site.
Thanks for your help!  I will learn CSS, I will learn Css, I will learn Css

body {
              font-family: Tahoma,Verdana,Helvetica,Arial;
              font-size: 12px;
              scrollbar-face-color : #FFFFFF;
              scrollbar-highlight-color : #FFFFFF;
              scrollbar-3dlight-color : #CFBCCF;
              scrollbar-shadow-color : #CFBCCF;
              scrollbar-darkshadow-color : #FFFFFF;
              scrollbar-track-color : #FFFFFF;
              scrollbar-arrow-color : #CFBCCF;
              margin-left: 0;
              margin-right: 0;
              margin-top: 0;
              margin-bottom: 0;
              background-image:
url(' ');
background-repeat: repeat
}

Hey, you could probably shorten that to this:

body{
font: 12px tahoma, verdana, helvectica, arial, sans-serif;
margin: 0;
background: #000 url(' ') repeat;
}

CSS Shorthand properties; an introduction. The property "scrollbar-" only works in I.E. so I didn't include it. 😑

Thanks. I have all the components in my mind. My next project is to make a more  involved style sheet. The link you gave me is great. For some reason putting the css parts I am using into a usable style is eluding my bran. I know three old timey languages and my son thinks I am over thinking css.

Anyway thanks to everyone for their help.
