I am slightly script challenged and hired someone to install efiction 3.5 and change the colors for me.
Unfortunately the person I hired decided half way through that he didn't know how πŸ™

So ... if you do know how to change the colors (He started making changes on the CSSZen skin) and think you can help with my problem please PM me with a quote.

Just to clarify - I do not want a new skin made - I want the colors of CSSZen changed to black background, white text and everything else a deep red color. I can pay by paypal

Can anyone help me?

The beauty of CSSZen is that it is purely powered by the CSS, and the colours? Easily interchangeable. It would be daylight robbery if you paid someone to do this. πŸ™

It would be worth taking a look at the style.css and reading through the comments (they're quite explanatory) and making your own adjustments. The CSS reference at w3schools is particularly helpful. If you have any troubles along the way, then feel free to ask (for free) here. I'm sure someone will help you out! πŸ˜€

Good luck. πŸ™‚

Hi Jenny - thanks for your reply. (and advice) I really am challenged and I'm scared if I completely muck up I'll have to get rid of everything and again pay someone to reinstall πŸ™
If you or anyone else can fix this up for me I'd be happy to pay you something for your time via paypal - or come to some arrangement with some PR links for your own site or something?

Changing the skin files doesn't affect the core of your install.  In fact, all skins are placed in a special folder named skins.  All part of the skins are found in these folders, customized for each.  So, CSSZen is in the CSSZen folder in the skins folder.  What you should do is download the CSSZen folder (or copy it from your eFiction download folder), and then you can play with it on your local machine without affecting anything on the server.

Also, you can make a new folder in the skins folder.  Name it something like CSSZentest.  If you site is live, you can make it so that only admins can view this skin, by going to Admin > Skins and hiding it. (This is how I do skin development.) Now you'll have a completely separate folder just for your test skin.  You can copy all the CSSZen files there.  Then, you can open the style.css file on your local machine, edit it, then upload it to the CSSZentest folder and overwrite the old style.css.  You can play around to your heart's content, without fear of affecting anything else.

The only thing to be at all worried about is not to change anything in the folder default_tpls.  That's the only place, other than other skins, that would have files with the same name.  But if you did accidentally overwrite something in there, all you have to do is replace it with the same file from the eFiction download.  They're not near each other, though, so there's hardly any chance at all of this happening.

I really suggest trying it out; you'll learn a lot about skinning.  Plus it's super simple, and free. : )

You won't mess anything up.

Black is #000, white is #fff and red is #900.

Play around with the style.css in the CSS Zen skin folder and I bet you can figure it out.

Ooh, also! You might be interested in this: http://lyndsiefenele.livejournal.com/191799.html

It's a little more technical than you probably need, but you can regard it as a bunch of trivia with some useful stuff interspersed.

Wow -  this board has the most coolest helpful members I have ever come across.
Thank you so much everyone ... I intend to take a couple of days out next week and educate myself on css.
I have neglected this far too long and it will be nice to be able to get things done myself in future.

For now one member has PM'ed and offered to help fix up my mess but I really do intend to teach myself with the aid of your helpful advice and links asap.

Again - thanks to everyone who took the time to reply, it's very much appreciated !
