Okay, so we are very close to unveiling our big upgrade in June and I'm doing a lot of last-minute stuff to tidy up a bit.
Our stories folder has a ton of folders with names instead of uids--I'm assuming that's how a prior version saved them. Anyway, these do not seem to be accessible from the site itself. For example, I checked one and while her uid folder and profile have a 15-chap story, her name folder also has one chapter.
I wasn't around way back when, so I don't know what to do with these. Delete them? Are they leftovers from an old upgrade or something? The old staff's long gone, so I can't ask them.

You can delete the ones with names. You are correct in your guess that they were used by a previous version.
Thank you for the confirmation. I thought it would be okay, but I was afraid to delete them without checking since I'm not the site owner--I'm not sure how reliable all of his backups are.
