If you view any story on the archive, you can see that the title and author are not displayed in the browser title, instead, coding is there, as read:
<!--SELECT author.penname as penname FROM fanfiction_authors as WHERE author .... ETC, ETC.
I don't know what exactly is causing this, for I've tried finding the source of it.

Do you have debug turned on? If you do, try turning it off and seeing if that fixes it.

In case you don't know how to turn debug off...
Go to Admin->Settings->Site Settings
Where it says 'Display Debug Information:' Change Yes to NO.
And it will go away.
