I posted this question in the bugs forum days ago but I think I posted it in the wrong place since I never got a response. One of my mods and I did a rest and the review notifications aren't working. Authors don't recieve emails stating that they've recieved a new review when their review notifications are on and reviews likewise don't recieve an email when they get a review response. The contact us link works perfectly though. Can someone help me?

Website: anenduringlove.net

Oh and one more question. When someone uses the report link will that go to the same email address that the contact us emails go to?

Thanks a bunch!
Dana

Yes, the report link to us link goes to the same address as contact us.

Well there could be a bunch of reasons why the authors are not receiving email to review responses.
1. Do the authors have 'Contact when author responds to review' checked in their profiles? (This is found in their Account Info->Edit Preferences section)
2. Is it possible that the authors have your website in their spam filters?
3. I seem to remember someone here had a link where you could check if your website is on a blacklist (but I'd have to hunt around and see)
4. Is it ALL your authors having this problem or just some?

In answer to your questions yes the author has the contact for review option on and the reviewer had the contact for responses option on. (It was me and my mod running a test) No it can't be in the spam filters because when she responded to me I checked the spam filter on my email and nothing showed up. I haven't gone live yet so I don't know if it will happen to others but I'm assuming it will because neither of us got an email notifying us of a review or a response. As for being blacklisted I'm not sure what that means but I doubt I am because I'm not recieving any emails myself. I only recieve them from the contact us link. When I reviewed my mod for the test and she reviewed back to me I didn't get an email. I doubt I've blacklisted my own website on my own email address. Becca installed the efiction software for me so I know it was installed properly. Anyone have any idea's on how to fix this?

Sometimes you can get blacklisted just because you're on shared hosting and someone else on your server is blacklisted. I think that my domain has been blacklisted by at least some providers because instead of turning them off in their profiles, people were marking the notifications emails as spam. (In fact, Yahoo notified our hosting company about this, who told us, and apparently a couple of dozen people out of ~2000 with Yahoo emails were doing it, which is just GUH.) Of course if you're not up and running then that can't be the cause. Just watch out in the future...

Well my mod uses yahoo, but I use aol. I didn't get an email stating I had a review response when she responded to me. I'm a mod at another fanfiction website that uses efiction as well and for a time they encountered the same problem. People stopped getting emails for reviews for a while, but the problem was eventually fixed. I don't know how it was fixed since I'm just a mod and not the webmaster of that site, but it encountered the same problem for a while. If blacklisting isn't the problem (my site is still closed for maintance) then what is? How can I fix this problem? I'm almost done building the site and I'd like to fix this issue before opening up for business.

It may have to do with your SMTP or server settings. I don't really know a ton about email. Are you using an email address associated with your domain, or something else?

the email address is assosiated with the domain as far as I know. It's @anenduringlove.net and my website is anenduringlove.net so it has to be associated with the domain right? I never had a website before so I don't know if that means it's associated with it or not. The smtp settings were already set by becca when she installed my site I believe. I don't use sendmail. (To be honest I don't even know what sendmail is) Is there something I can try?

My understanding is that typically when you have an email address that is associated with your domain (yours is), then you leave the SMTP settings blank, but I would suggest talking to Becca about it since she will know better what needs to be done in relation to how the server is set up.

Sendmail is a feature of Linux-based servers which enables the mail to be sent. I could be wrong on this (like I said, I don't know much about mail) but my understanding is that if you have an email address that is @ your domain, then sendmail works just fine w/o additional info (this is why I have it blank at my sites). However, if you want to use another, like Hotmail or Yahoo or the other providers, you need to use fill out the SMTP settings info to pass the email along to them, in a manner of speaking. Of course, individual server configurations can vary, so you definitely should find out from Becca what you need to do.

How do I get in touch with Becca? Should I email her or will she see these posts?

BTW will changing the smtp from mysite to myhost make any difference in this instance?

I don't know how to contact her. I'd suggest emailing her or maybe PMing her.

Changing the SMTP from your domain to your server/host domain might work.
