The current eFic RSS seems to be perfectly suited for FanworksFinder.com's RSS feed submission, which will add fics from the feed into their database so people can find them via FF and recommend them-- higher recommended fics will show up higher in search results. While I'm still trying to iron out including the rec buttons on each fic's ending, I'm wondering how I can modify the RSS.PHP according to FF's standards, which are outlined here: http://www.fanworksfinder.com/rss_info.php

I took a look at the rss.php and I notice that the XML is generated using PHP output, but because it uses variables that are not in eFic, I'm wondering how difficult (if at all) it would be to add the necessary code, especially if eFic updates the actual fic RSS on its own, but the RSS feed example in the site above seems to be otherwise (because it uses those FF-specific variables).

Basically, is there a way to do this with the current feed, or would it be better off to try and create a new feed somehow?

This is not a general support request.  You want to mod the RSS to be used for a specific fan site, that's a MOD.

Well, I did think it could apply to everyone's site if they wanted to use FF with eFic, since the script doesn't change for each site/fic unless Java can't be used. But I placed a new post of this in the Mods thread.

I would be cautious about this affecting  normal newsreaders that might get confused with the <fanworks> namespace you're wanting to add.  Also what if the site owner didn't want to feed items to fanworks?  If it's there by default they have no control over it.  Anyone could add their feed to the site and because the specialized namespace was there by default, they'd have no control over it.  They wouldn't even know most likely.  I'm not sure I want my hard work on what looks like fanlib lite to me.  And that's why I said it should be a mod.

What do you mean by "normal newsreaders"-- things like Sage? I assume if they don't want to feed items to fanworks, they could not use the mod at all, unless you meant SPECIFIC items-- particular stories, news announcements, etc., in which case something might have to be worked out between the coders at FF and here at eFic. I'm not sure what you mean by the namespace being added by people other than the site owner, and people using it unfairly, though. But if there is a legitimate possibility of a security breach, then it's probably not a good idea. But FF emerged after the fanlib wank, and as far as I can see, it's a lot better than fanlib-- for one thing, it does NOT archive the fics or art in question, and its rating system only functions when someone actually clicks the button, creates an account, and submits a rating/review. It's very reader-based and focused, so the reviews don't read like "RITE MOAR PLZ!" but rather "Read this story if you like..." That was the primary reason why I wanted to try integrating it with my eFic installation(s), so that the fics could be genuinely reviewed BY READERS FOR READERS, whereas the reviews on the site would be targeted toward the author.
