I'm wondering if there's a way to insert a Java-based snippet for a FanworksFinder.com into the story end notes or a similar place for every story on my archive-- with minimal work, if possible. Since the link for each story to be different, I would need it to be different for each story-- not something inserted into the general skin, like the footer (which is what I use for other affiliate links). Is there any way to do this? I'm not sure if this would be considered a skinning issue.

I don't know how, but you'd probably try to add it on the viewstory.tpl and see if it works. Maybe there is a rotating code for java on the internet. πŸ™‚

I don't get what you're asking.  Is this a specific java snippet you're asking about?  If so point us to it.

Here's the code:

<script type="text/javascript" src="" http://www.fanworksfinder.com/evb/button.php"></script> [/code"]

That's javascript not java.  You should be able to add it to your .tpl just as Jan said.

Okay, I added it, and it looks like it's working, but I have an aesthetic question relating to the javascript, since I'm not sure how it works, but if you look at any of the stories on my eFic install (sample: http://drfa.seventh-star.net/viewstory.php?sid=68&chapter=1), the button shows up, but the bottom bit seems to be cut off, even after I add a line break tag. Is there any way to fix that, or is it something from within the Java?

I don't know. I'd guess that it's either something with the CSS declaring something the java outputs, or something wrong with the java. Try a clean skin: make a new one and delete the stuff from the css.style file. If it's all gone, and the thing shows up right, you'll know it's the css.

I just dropped it into my .tpl as well.  As above the bottom is cut off but it works, so that is a start.

Submitting a story you have to add a lot of info, but it works πŸ™‚

I wonder if they could add a more advanced button where we can include some of the common variables in the query string.

The Javascript is messed up.  It creates an iFrame to hold the image, but the iframe is the wrong size....at least that is what I am seeing from the code.

If that's the case, is there any way to fix it on our end, or is it something we might want to bring up with the people at FF, either to fix the code in general, or to try working out some sort of compatible thing for eFiction-script users (that want to use it)?

It is there end from what I can tell.  The iFrame is a bit too small for the content.  Being a Javascript call I do not think we can effect it via CSS, so it would have to be something updated on there end.

Actually, I just checked and they changed the button slightly so it fits in the area.  It still scrolls but there is no content off the frame...so it looks like they got it resolved already.

ex.

The big change was the words under the button now say "Rec It"

I checked mine out using Firefox 2.0.0.5 on a Mac, and it seems to be perfect; I'm not seeing anything cut off or scrolling. Of course, I only checked one fic (that has not been recced yet), so I'm not sure if that applies to ALL buttons yet, but so far so good. πŸ™‚ Good to know we didn't have to do any heavy tweaking and FF is working on their end.
