Adding/bridging a forum - a good mod?

I've been researching how to add a forum to my site, and so far it's looking like I'm SOL for bridging - I already have a few users on my site, and all the mods/suggestions I've found say that I have to have 0 eFiction users and have them log in/sign up with the forum software in order to work.

Are there any bridges that can work with an existing eFiction install and a new forum-software install?  I'd really like to have my eFiction users populate the forum, rather than the other way around...

And I'm willing to use whatever forum software works - I just need A forum, preferably one that has a few user-level controls, but anything that lets users onto a message board will work, as long as it's integrated with the site...

Thanks in advance from a confused newbie!

You'd have to find a forum software that can work with a foreign user's table.  Unfortunately I don't know of any.

It's quite possible to do bridge an existing eFiction to a new SMF, but it requires A LOT of work in phpMyAdmin and really isn't beginner friendly.

Skins made by Kali are no longer supported!

There are at least two threads around here on how to do it assuming they weren't pruned. Just search my previous posts and you should find at least one of them...

A CMS like Joomla 1.5 can readily bridge with a forum. There are several Joomla PHPBB3 bridges, many if not most are free!  I just formally released the JFiction mod, which is a bridge between Joomla and eFiction. You could use something like this to "daisy chain" applications. Joomla would be the conductor, with eFiction and your forum of choice each plugged into the CMS. This way, all systems, at least in theory, could share the same user data. JFiction is "bi-directional", which means that all user data in common between the two systems (username, password, name, email) is written to both sets of user tables, so you could still use eFiction's native user data elsewhere if you like.

Again, just a suggestion, but it may be worth a shot.
