URL to your eFiction: http://www.narrativa.co.uk/eFiction35/index.php
Version of eFiction: 3.5
Have you bridged eFiction, if so with what?: no
Version of PHP: [can be found out from your host] latest
Version of MySQL: [can be found out from your host] latest
Have you searched for your problem: (yes/no) yes
If so, what terms did you try: story fatal error 1064 new MySQL in various combinations
Do you have a test account for us?  yup
Name: test account
Password: test13579

State the nature of your problem: Copy and paste any errors you are receiving.

When members add a new story they get the following error message:

A fatal MySQL error was encountered.
Query: SELECT PENNAMEFIELD AS penname FROM DBPREFIXfanfiction_coauthors AS c WHERE sid = '5' LEFT JOIN fanfiction_authors as author AS a ON a.UIDFIELD = c.uid
Error: (1064) You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'LEFT JOIN fanfiction_authors as author AS a ON a.UIDFIELD = c.uid' at line 1

The story has gone onto the archive, but of course, the automatic reaction when finding an error is to try again, so i've been doing a lot of deleting of multiple submissions!

Am very new to this, so it's probably an obvious problem, but it's baffling me!

Thank you!

Under Admin->Settings->Submission settings, do you have Allow Co-authors turned on? The error message seems to be about co-authors. I didn't remember seeing co-authors when I added the test story (that you can delete). I got the error after the submission, but I see it posted so you have stories set to automatically validate? Or did you validate it yourself?

This error has been mentioned many times...

This one may have the solution you seek:

co-authors are off, validations are automatic.

So sorry if this has come up before! I must have had searchfail when i looked previously. My fault, entirely.

thank you so much for your time/help!

EDIT: The above links led to a solution to the problem! Thanks again!
