What had been happening:
I had just uploaded a skin and was modifying it to fit in with the website. After I was done, I logged off and left another admin to finish up some details. I come back on the next day, and there is that error.
Any help would be much appreciated 🙂
I think the most obvious step is to check whether the fanfiction_shoutbox actually exists. :s

Yep. Moving this to general support. This sounds more like a configuration problem (probably in the skin) on your end than a bug in the actual script.
I checked all of the files, but none of them call for a shoutbox. Since I couldn't find the root, I decided to go to the other end and look for the shoutbox. When I read that it is not automatically installed, then I figured that's what happened. The skin I'm using assumes the shoutbox is installed. So, I just moved the shoutbox folder to the 'docs' and the efiction site came back. I never use it, so I don't think it will be missed.

The shoutbox folder is supposed to be in the blocks folder.

Yes, that is where it would go if you needed it. Since I never use it, it would cause less problems if I just move it.
You should keep it where it's supposed to be. If you give your site to someone else, or if you decide to use the shoutbox years down the road, we may have problems concerning the placement, and no one would know it's in a different place (or remember), possibly spending countless hours trying to figure it out.

Most likely this is a case of a variables.php file in your skin turning the shoutbox on. Just delete the lines that mention shoutbox from your variables.php in the skin you were having problems with.
I checked ALL of my files in my skin for any mention of the shoutbox and there wasn't anything. That's what was confusing.
I would like to keep it where it ought to be, but since I can't find out where the problem is in the coding, I'm a bit stuck at the moment.
And is it in the .tpl file of the skin?
No, it's not. The shoutbox is not mentioned anywhere in the skin.
