I was wondering if anyone knew of a quick fix for my issue.
An author at my archive (she has stories posted already) decided that she would like to
capitalize her screen name, but when I went into her account to do so, the change wouldn't take.
I'm puzzled by this because I've done it in the past (changed an existing username), but for
some reason, the system simply won't do it. This is the message I get when I try:
Edit Personal Information
This penname is already in use. Please try again.
The action was successful. Back to Admin area.
The site tells me that the action was successful, but when I check the name, it hasn't changed.
Can anyone tell me if I'm missing something?
Thanks.
You can change it in phpMyAdmin... use a SQL query like this:
UPDATE `fanfiction_authors` SET penname = 'New Penname' WHERE uid = '467'
archive:
site:
Available for skin/mod commission! π
Thanks for the reply!
This is probably the part where I should tell you that database stuff
flies over my head at many miles an hour.... π
But I'm going to poke around in there and see what I can find.

Since I've established that I'm mysql challenged, can you please tell me if
I'm about to do this correctly, and if I'm not, could you please give me more
detailed instructions. You know, DB for dummies?
Thanks! π
That should work. π I'm more accustomed to using the SQL tab though.
You'll have to change the information. So you'll need to obtain the user's UID, and their desired penname.

Quick question: did you verify that her username capitalized doesn't already exist? The usernames are case-sensitive, so having say, bobsmith would be different than BobSmith. The script would allow it and they could have been created by two completely different users. It might be failing if someone else already has it.

Thanks so much. It worked, and she is now very happy! π

Actually, I hadn't thought of that, but upon looking, nope. She was the only one with that particular name.
It's so weird that the site just decided not to cooperate... Thanks for the suggestion, though. I'll keep it in
mind if this ever comes up again. π
