You may be right jrabbit. I took one of the text stories that I could upload and changed it into an html file and it uploaded fine.

Which doesn't really help at all, because there's no way that all of my authors are going to start writing stories in plain text or start using plan text editors. I hope this isn't the case, 'cause this just sucks.

PS If that is the cause of our problems, wouldn't pasting into the textbox be affected too?

Not if you're using tinyMCE.  It converts to HTML characters I believe.  I don't think that was it though.  See if the update to 3.2 that I put up last night fixes this problem.  It seemed to be a problem with some of the preg_replace statements in the descript function.

I upgraded to 3.2, and I am still having the same problem. All I was doing actually was taking the author notes from the body text and putting them in the right section, and it won't accept the text still. This is rather frustrating to say the least. lol

Did you upgrade after Tammy posted to update to the upgrade? I haven't tried it myself, but I was really  hoping this would solve it too...

I didn't get home until way after she updated the zip file, so it should be the new zip. I worked 12 hr shifts the last 2 days so I don't get home until after 5:30 or so AM.

I've just upgraded to 3.2 (after your update) but I still get the same error when trying to paste text into the text box (it does work when using tinyMCE) and also if I try to upload a text file.

I'm also using Dreamhost hosting, have been having the same problems as everyone else in this thread it seems.

I just tried updating a story with TinyMCE turned on and it worked. The problem comes in when you are not using TinyMCE and are pasting your HTML into the box. I personally had to go and fix my tinyMCE settings to take out all the next line tags... oddly enough.

Tammy, any luck on the posting problem? Not everyone likes to use TinyMCE all the time. I usually end up putting in my own code myself, and as it stands the only way I can post/edit is with it turned on.

I did some google searches on this issue and it seems that eFiction isn't the only thing being effected by this. It seems to be something to do with php 5.2.1 ( I'm still not sure it's a bug or if it's supposed to be a feature. ) It looks like there may be workarounds but if so, they're way over my head.

I'm going to post a few links in hopes that they'll help us find a solution to this. EDIT Looking at this list again, I don't think it'll be too helpful. Still there's always a chance.

For anyone else on dreamhost, I was getting enough complaints about this that I switched my site back over to php 4.4.4. It seems to have worked, although it is causing my gallery to slow down, but that isn't really a problem either since php 5.2.1 wouldn't let me upload anything to the gallery too.

I'll go back to php 5 when they've fixed whatever it is that they have done or someone finds a workaround for it. At least now I can upload both text and html files with efiction. I'll worry about the gallery later.

Okay, for Dreamhost Customers, I just figured this out.

Go to Manage Domains
Find the domain/subdomain with your efiction directory, and click on Fully, which will edit your settings.
At the top it will ask if you want 4.4.2 or 5, click on 4 and save your changes.

Now your directory should work! πŸ™‚

Go to the Domains section of the web panel and click on Manage Domains. Click on the little wrench to edit you domain, and select php 4.4.2 in with the jump menu, (It says 4.4.2, but it's really 4.4.4 and badly needs to be upgraded to 4.4.6). Click the 'Change Fully Hosted Settings Now' button a little farther down and in a few minutes you'll be back on php 4.4.4

Note that I did this before they changed the panel and am just giving the instructions as they would be used with the new panel. Plus you may want to do a quick backup just in case. I've never had a problem with it, but you never know.
