I thought of this idea earlier, but wasn't sure what the general response would be. On searching I found this thread but it's two years old and I'd rather not bump.
However, I'd be interested in creating and managing an "official" (as it were) fanlisting for eFiction (3.0) and then a directory listing for archives running on eFiction -- so there's a list of people who own the archives and a list of people who don't but are still fans. I've created several fanlistings in the past so this would be quite nice.
Would anyone be interested/do I have permission?
I'll set up the site if it's a good idea for the populace. π

sounds great, but would it be a list of targets for hackers looking for efiction? I read a tech warning on here from SteveD3 who insisted we not even include the word efiction or fics or stories or anything of the sort because these people search those words.
Other than that, I think its a great idea and would be willing to add my site to the list if it was deemed safe by admin

I read about that, too.
Which was why, at first, I was thinking of only allowing people to list the latest versions and not any of the 1.1 or 2.0 builds. :S

I've been working on what turned out to be a similar project.
Although fanfiction-directory.com technically lists any fanfiction archive, the overwhelming majority of new sites are efiction based (and I get most of my links from people here on the boards or from backlinks to my skins.)
Skins made by Kali are no longer supported!
Ah yes, I was thinking of a fanlisting type of thing though. π
Will have to link fanfiction-directory.

Hey Kali, your fan fic list site is pretty cool. I registered my site, but I see that it's already there with the wrong url. It goes directly to my efiction archive, but I actually have 2 different hpff archives available from my main page. Can you please replace that link with the one I registered? That would be great, thanks. And nice job on that site!
Jenny, you get anywhere with your project? After all, the more sites that link to us, the higher we rate with Google π The more the merrier.

I have most of it planned; I'm just curious as to whether I'm actually allowed to do this. :3

Your pretty much allowed to do whatever you want to. I don't have a problem with it, really.
And I don't think it would be any more of a "resource" for hackers than say, the forums here where we pretty much require everyone to provide link to their site as part of their support request. Or even google, where you can type in fanfiction and get tons of sites so I wouldn't worry too much about that...
Ooh, that's good to here!
Also, in addition to a fanlisting which will be open to eFiction users and non-eFiction users (that is ... admins and members), would you guys be interested in a webring? Or is that getting a 'tad bit too much? (and then should I just have a dedicated page for eFiction archives that'll do with manual updating?)

I've found that webrings are not joined very much anymore. Back in the 90's, everyone and their brother had a page of nothing but webrings, but I rarely see them today.
It's not a bad idea to have a webring, but I think more people would join a directory or fanlisting.
Skins made by Kali are no longer supported!
I agree with Kali there and I also think a fanlisting/directory would be better than a webring π

The web ring would have separate. π
Though I must agree with them declining. Hm.

Personally, I always join ONE webring - but I never rely on it. The majority of visitors are lazy and want something laid out on a page that they can easily see without leaving your domain. Most webrings aren't as user friendly and they get skipped. I wouldnt say no one joins them anymore, but I would say most visitors aren't as likely to view them. The fan listing is the way to go, but it wouldnt hurt to add the webring as well.
Idk how you feel about hosted progs, but if you dont want to do everything manually, you can find "html gear" that will allow your visitors to post thier own link. I had one once - when I was on geocities - but I dont recall where I got it. Also, they get spammed. If it was me, I would do the manual thing but it's an option for you.

Hm, yeah, that's what I thought.
The working on FL is down at the moment, server issues. π
But as for manually updating ... I'd probably just write a script to do that for me. :3 (I'm kind of anal like that, lol)

LOL!! Most people aren't able to whip up a script. Obviously, writing a script never even crosses my mind. You go girl.
Hope your server problems subside soon. Can't wait to see what you come up with! (Good luck!)
