I have a question.
Is there anyone out there who runs a story archive with eFiction (or other software), and run ads?

I am not interested in knowing how this is done technically, neither in adsense of Google, but I am interested in how you got the advertisers (to advertise), the price, what advertisement (banners, towers, buttons, etc.) and how you arrange the administration (the stats).

I think many of us running a story archive would be interested in this kind of golden information.

We used Project Wonderful on JBFA before Adsense, which is a third-party program but you have absolutely control over the ads that run and you don't need epic amounts of traffic to sign in.

I've also done it by hand before on my own sites. Google Analytics can give you very good stats on your page views (for imprints) and your unique views as well as what pages are getting traffic. I was unable to set up the ad system by imprints because I couldn't track the actual views of each ad without another third-party script, so instead I sold by duration of ad (14 days or whatever).

My advertisers came to me, but I had a big 'advertise here' link available for more info. If you're not using a third party ad manager company, it can be very difficult to attract advertisers who aren't other fansites/webcomics/etc, but if that's what you're looking for...

Most big advertisers expeced to see the big 3 - 160x600 768x90 or 468 x 60. However I've had good results with 125 x 125 on other fan sites. Generally speaking if you can snag a big company, you'll want the big banners for more money but smaller advertisers and fan sites wanted smaller ads that are more affordable. Text links also tend to sell well because they're cheap, but sometimes the advertisers they attract can be pretty scammy.

I did all the changing of the ads by hand because I allowed only one in each slot at a time, but you could probably get a php rotate image script going in the header.

Right now we're running two Leaderboards and a Wide Skyscraper on the skin I'm working on, but we're working with big advertisers and 100s of thousands of imprints a day. When we were just starting out, I had a column of 125x125 which went for $.10-.20 a day and a Leaderboard that usually was around $1 or so a day.

Skins made by Kali are no longer supported!

I would recommend AdBrite where you can also have people bid on your ads.

Thank you so much. For everyone, I like to share what I have found until now.
I know that it is possible for all of you who have a story archive, to get some of the costs back and in some cases more then that.
I know that for example www.fanfiction.net gets good income out of their advertisements, enough to pay several salaries.

The three main type of ad-networks are CPC, CPM, and CPA.
CPC (costs per click)
CPA (costs per Action)
CPM (costs per page view)

To see a list of advertisement companies other then Google adsense, go here:
http://www.adtalks.com/blog/the_list/

Prices are from $0.20-$8 per click, $0.05-$10 per 1,000 page views, 'renting ads-space' per day is about $0.05-$10 per day.

The golden rule here is how more page views you have per day, how more you earn. An example (renting ads-space):
When you have a site with about 500 page views per day, you could earn $0.50-$1.50 per day
When you have a site with about 4,000 page views per day, you could earn $2 - $10 per day

And that is all per ad. When you have 10 different ads on your site, the money would be multiplied per ad of course.
I let you know which advertisement company gives the best.

One remark. Most of the advertisement companies do not like when you have adult content. And when you have fics with adult rating, they will not advertise with you.
