Validate Stories Not Working Right Since 3.2 Update

I updated to 3.2 yesterday and it seemed everything went ok.

Then a new author joined and submitted a story, and I have my settings to where I have to approve newbies and/or new stories before they're visible. I went to validate her - both as an author and her story - but her story did not become visible on the archive as a result. I never had this issue before the upgrade.

Here's a link to my archive in general:
http://www.purrsiathunder.org/efic/index.php

I don't get any weird sql errors or anything - stories just don't show up publically and they disappear from the submissions queue too, so I can't even see this author's story anywhere anymore. Here's the link to the author's profile, where you can see she's listed as having 0 stories:
http://www.purrsiathunder.org/efic/viewuser.php?uid=56
I can also see, as an admin, that she's supposedly a validated author now. I don't know if having her re-submit would fix it or not. I could ask. However, that'd be a pain to have users have to do, and I really do prefer to pre-screen newbies so I'd like to keep validation on.
You can also see its failure to appear in the most recent page:
http://www.purrsiathunder.org/efic/browse.php?type=recent

I don't notice anything amiss in the setting area - they're set the same as they have always been.

I don't know what else to add. It's really as simple as I go to validate, by initial indications it seems to work, but then the story disappears without ever appearing publically. Anyone else having this problem?

Thanks for any help in advance!

Oh, no I didn't >.< Was looking in this forum to make sure this hadn't been brought up and solved already and forgot to blip back to the other forum to post. Not my day I guess.

If someone wants to move it to the regular bugs forum, please do and accept my apologies. Thanks.

Just because you validate the author it does not validate that author's stories.  Validation of an author only affects stories added AFTER they're validated.  And it's always been that way.  The story should still be in the submissions queue.

Right, but I've done both - the story first, then the author. The story disappeared. That's the problem. Worked fine pre-3.2 update, doesn't now. Hope I've explained it well enough.

Edit: Okay, I went to make a test account to see what goes on when I try to add a story as an unvalidated author, and I get some errors as I go along. From the time I sign up for the account throughout the whole time I'm adding my test story, I get this error that might be related to the issue:

Notice: Undefined variable: submissions in /home/purrsiat/public_html/efic/blocks/info/info.php on line 52

Going to see if I can log back in as admin shortly and try to validate my test story...and that worked. Still don't understand what happened to the other story! Didn't do anything different O_o  πŸ˜•

Second Edit:
Went into mysql, found the story, and changed the appropriate value for validation to 1 so that it would finally show up (could no  longer do it from the admin panel on the site because, as I said, it disappeared from the validation queue like it would had the validation been a success and yet wasn't showing up on the site, either). My test story worked without having to do all that, but something weird is still going on. There's no reason the initial story shouldn't have also validated as I went through the same process for both. Not sure what's going on, but I never had a problem before with validation until the upgrade, and I've run an archive on efiction for a few years now. Just thought I'd keep you updated.

I've got this problem too - only with 3.2, though.

When I modify a story, and then validate it (the story, not the chapter), the 'validated' field in the database changes to 0 instead of 2.

I have a slightly simular problem. I was adding a story from the Admin menu, and I selected the Validate Story at the bottom. Instead of validating the story, it just sends it to the submission queue with no email telling me it's there. I just happened to click on it.

This is a brand new install, so I am not sure if it's doing this on my main website or not.

I had a similar problem except most of my members couldn't even post stories and everything was set to validate. They just get logged off and a message saying "You are not authorized to use that function" keeps showing up. *shrugs*

But the line error on 52 of info.php was solved for me when I put my info block set to "chart" instead of "variable."

You have "Validate" at the bottom? I only have one "validate" on the Validate page, and it's at the top...

In the Admin Submit a Story, at the very bottom of the submission form it has several options 1 says Validate and has a pull down menu that says Chapter/Story. One works, and one doesn't. That's why I said I had a "slightly" similar problem. *chuckles* I technically need to start a new thread and post it exactly since this one is "technically" a different issue I think.

Though, the first entry that I submitted to my archive did disappear from the queue and wasn't validated I was using the Admin Submit a Story Form. Luckily, it was my submission for my name and I was able to edit the story and validate it that way to show up. That was the main reason I replied here because I had the same thing happen to my first entry.

Yeah, it might be a different bug. You validate with the edit/add a story page. It sends it to the submissions que instead of validating and you don't get an e-mail telling a new story is in the submisisons.

I think Purrsia validates through the Admin submisisons page. Her stories seem to chnage the validation status to 0 and take them off of the submissions que.

Livia seems to edit the story, then validate it. But where? The validation page or the edit story page? I can't say which problem she matches of the two previous.

You are all supposed to be giving urls of the pages you were on before the error/problem happens. πŸ™‚ It sometimes helps.

Purrsia, are you validating stories, or chapters?

For the record, I have been able to validate new chapters fine. I don't think that I have added any stories since updating to 3.1.2, but I have validated chapters.

No, I always use the validate feature in the Submissions section which does send an email and works fine for me since I started using PHP 4 instead of 5. I started using 5 with the new install for Gossamer, but it didn't quite work right.

As I said, I was Adding a story in the Admin menu because I was adding under someone else's name. At the bottom of the admin form there is a little pull down menu. Validate Story works as far as I can tell Validate Chapter doesn't. When I first tried it, it said it was submitted, I looked for it and it never showed up. I checked my manage stories and it was there. I clicked on Show Chapters and it said it wasn't validated. I looked over at the submissions section, and it was there, I hit validate, it disappeared, but didn't show up in the Recent. I then went and edited the story and hit Validate Story instead of chapter and it finally showed up.

Hope that clears it up.

Okay first let me reiterate.  One bug per thread please.  That said, it'll be fixed with the next update if I haven't gotten totally confused.

Sorry, I wasn't totally sure it was two separate bugs. I did have stuff disappear kind of like was described. I just wasn't validating an author as well, just the story. *hugs* sorry about that.
