I get the following error when adding or updating a story or chapter. I've tried changing every setting that might help, plus refreshing the stats and database via the admin panel, and deleting the previous failed stories/chapters via my MySQL database management software. Please, take a look and help if you can!

PLEASE, help! Major frustration happening here! The first error, "Error!We encountered an error. Please go back and try again." also happens when I try to delete the failed stories/chapters through the site, hence why I've needed to go into the MySQL to delete them. And speaking of going into MySQL, all the data I entered into the Add Story form is in there! Why doesn't the PHP site see that data? 😥
So confusing...
That error message can actually be found in en.php, so it's part of eFiction, and not PHP or MySQL. That tell us something, though I'm not sure what. It typically means you're not meeting some criteria, like being logged in as the owner of the story, or being logged in as admin, for deleting/editing stories. For displaying the data I'd have to go look through and see where _ERROR appears in the files to give more of a hint as to what's going on. We'll see how often it's used in that area to see if it's helpful.

So that is probably the section that's causing the message to come up. The only other place _ERROR appears in stories.php is in the function delete() (line 888), which is right on target for what you're saying.

Do you get anything else when you turn debug on? Because all I've got so far is that it's not pulling the info from the database, which we already knew. You should also fill out the Support Request Template so we know what versions of PHP/MySQL you have.

No, I just got on the site a few minutes ago, and the only thing I changed on my site so far is to turn off Debug Mode. I can't see the story via that link, only the error and empty story messages. I can see it on the Titles page, but when I click on the link for By Firelight itself, I get the same errors as I've been getting.

It worked!!!
Okay, here's what happened: I had to reinstall eFiction due to skin issues after having added a lot of custom data, like characters and classifications and such, so I installed it with a different table prefix so that the data could be safe while I completed the re-installation. So after reinstalling, I pointed the config.php file to the old settings table, and I thought it wouldn't hurt a thing.
It turned out it was somehow breaking the story-viewing script(s). So just now, I changed the tables back to the re-installation's chosen table prefixes, and edited the config.php file accordingly.
I'm sorry I thought this was a bug; it so happens I created said "bug" myself. SOLVED.
I may never have found out how to fix this problem if you hadn't told me to try Debug Mode. True, I tried it earlier, but I sorta just skimmed over the PHP notices. That was silly of me. Anyway, thanks so much!!
