Just installed 3.3 on my test site
php and mysql info in siggy
http://www.pretendercentre.com/missingtest/index.php
emails for reveiw and author responds are not being sent unless the member is at admin level, they seem to be sending fine. I have checked and doublechecked the mail addy and that is fine (even tried a few different ones and none of them work)
upgrade from 3.2.1 went fine as far as i can tell and i double checked any dropped files as i was uploading.
love some of the new stuff in this one, and the addition of the modules link is awesome!!!!

What do you mean by "emails for review"? Emails to the authors when a new review is submitted? There's absolutely nothing in that section of the code that pertains to admin status. Do you have your site bridged or something?
ETA: Do me a favor and turn debug on so I can see what it's pulling from the database.
I have no brigdes at all Tammy, just turned debug on.
Yeah, sorry, i meant when i get a reveiw, the notificiaton that the review has been recived or an author has responded to a review is not being sent to a member, yet as an admin i get one. Also, i jsut did a mail members and my admin accoutn (jacci) got an email, but my member account (jacs) didnt.
ETA: do you want me to create an admin account for you too?

Try editing the preferences for your member account. Does your member account have an email? As I said, there's nothing in those sections that has anything to do with admin status. It can't be the admin status that's causing your problems.
i have checked the preferences and they are fine all set to recieve notifications. I also promoted myself to admin at various levels, and yeah, it didnt make any difference at all, still no emails.
Another friend just joined and hers sent out fine, both the welcome to ... letter and numerous reviews.
Yet on another member, it is not sending at all, even the contact author email isnt going.
I also just joined as another member on different email and didnt receieve either welcome letter or the notification of reviews
At the moment i am hoping then that it is perhaps my server having a fit or something (not completley unheard of) as some of my members getting them and some are not. I just tried my thrid accout with email and not working.
Going to leave it for a day or so, see if perhaps the emails are coming, jsut slow, or if the server is just behaving strangely.
thanks again tammy, appreciate everything you do, it is an awesome job

Update on this problem:
A few new members have joined and some are getting emails and some are not.
I have 4 accounts myself now and only one recieves emails of any kind.
Even the contact author, or mail members isn't working if a member is affected, it isn't only the review notification.
Have checked the email addies and they are all fine, and all the settings are set properly and they are correct in the tables too as far as I can tell.
I have checked my php info for sendmail andit is:
sendmail_from no value no value
sendmail_path /usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i /usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i
although i have no idea what that means.
My email settings are empty (no smtp info in them)
It seems that the emails are working randomly, some members getting and some not. Is there anything in my settings that could cause this, or the tables that might be wrong? Or perhaps a server thing if it isn't the script?
thanks
jacci
ETA: have changed subject since it has nothing at all to do with admin status, as was my first erroneous assumption

I don't think it's eFiction that's the problem. I think you've been labeled a spammer along the way somewhere and your messages are getting dumped. The script sets the sendmail_from as it sends the messages out. Check your email's trash folder and see if it's not being sent directly to trash due to spam filtering. You could try putting in the information to send emails through SMTP if you know it.
You might want to check and see what e-mails are not recieving- if all the hotmail.com's block, but all the yahoo.com ones go through. That might help figuring out if it's on their side. I know that aol.com blocks e-mail from my site for some reason.

This may or may not be helpful, but we've been having the same issue since 2.0, I think. I've always just assumed it was messages getting redirected to spam boxes. Because of that, I did some testing. Hotmail has been particularly notorious. During some testing to a Hotmail account, the messages bounced back to the site email account - they didn't even go into the spam folder at my Hotmail account.
However, since updating to 3.2.1, some members that previously were receiving updated story notifications say they are no longer receiving them.
Sending to gmail and yahoo accounts has never been a problem for us, to my knowledge, assuming people check their junkmail folders.
Sounds like your mail server has been blacklisted. It happens a lot with dreamhost accounts, so I just set my site to use my gmail account to send out mail. That solved the problem for me. You can also alert you host to the fact that you think your mail server has been blacklisted and sometimes they can have it unlisted, although, if it's (the server) still sending out a lot of spam, it's likely to be blacklisted again shortly. One of the pitfalls of shared hosting, that I've come across.
I am not with Dreamhost, although i do know that i have had returned mail from phatom email addies stolen from my domain so perhaps i have been blacklisted (I HATE spamming bastards).
If i want to set up that gmail thing as you have done darklight, is it jsut simply changing the admin email to a gmail account? or do i have to so something with the email settings themselves? or the stmp?
thanks
jacci
some extra info:
the emails it is failing to go to include: hotmail.com, yahoo.de, pretendercentre.com (my own domain email, although it goes to other email addies on that account) math.net.au (another one of my own domains) and heroeschat.com.au(my other domain) and fails too on my bigpond.net.au account- my isp account
I have checked my spam and junk files and they are not ending up there, turned spam assassin off and getting lots of crap now, but none of it from the test site.
It is only my test site and i am going to try later running the upgrade on my live heroes site to see if i encounter a similar problem there too.

It's a bit like setting up your email client. In the email settings area of the admin panel just use the template below. Gmail and the last one have both worked for me so, but the aol one is untested on my website, although it works fine with Thunderbird.
SMTP Host: smtp.gmail.com
SMTP Username: yourname@gmail.com
SMTP Password: your_Gmail password
Or even
SMTP Host: smtp.aol.com
SMTP Username: yourAOLscreenname
SMTP Password: yourAOLpassword
You can also try this
SMTP Host: mail.yoursite.com
SMTP Username: yourSiteMailLoginName
SMTP Password: yourSiteMailPassword
Not sure if this last one is just Dreamhost or not. And I haven't upgraded yet, so I haven't tested it with 3.3
Thanks guys, it is looking more and more like i have been blacklisted. I know spamming assholes have been stealing my domain name as i got a lot of bounced emails that i KNOW i did not send trying to sell drugs/enlargements etc etc.
Sorry Tammy, this problem started at the exact same time as i upgraded ( i swear *they* are out to get me) and with the emial issues with previous 3.2.1, i just assumed it was a similar thing but i have now set the stmp field as darklight explained, thanks so much for that, using my isp mail instead and now the accounts that were not getting mail now seem to be getting mail.
I am marking this as solved and if you want to move it out of the bugs section into general help with version 3, that might be a good idea since the bug seems to be with me and not eFiction at all.
Thanks everyone for your help here, this has been driving me crazy for a few days now and i am hoping that this new config wiht the email keeps it sorted.

Glad to hear it's fixed jacci! π I think we'll leave this here until Lyndsie and any others who have the same problem on this thread can see the solution.

Now that I've read the newer responses I think I actually have two problems. There's the one I described that isn't really that big of a problem, and then there's the fact that no one at all has been getting notifications for a while. I've actually been a bit distant from the site stuff the last few months since I was graduating college, but I remembered that the site owner had changed the email from a dracoandginny.com address to a gmail account a while back, and had meant to check whether or not I'd have to change the email settings. Obviously I forgot. : ( Anyway, I'll let you all know if the problem is solved once she enters the proper information (I don't have the password to that account). I suspect it will be.
